In some cases, i would agree, however, if they say released a coil spring mastodon, id buy that first year no question.
In this case it would be a reputable company releasing a more conservative product. So there is less risk.

And you know and are willing to take the small risk. Average Joe doesn't.

Incidently the Carver Carbon Beast forks, I've seen on AliExpress under their generic brandings, both the original QR version and the thru-axle version. And their various titanium forks, handlebars, posts and frames can be bought direct from Ali also. Pretty much the same goes for all of Wren's stuff. The fact they don't actually manufacture anything, simply rebrand chinese made parts is likely why they weren't forthcoming with an answer about the crappy dropout assembly that started this thread. Unless they have someone on staff fluent in mandarin, its probably hard to get answers out of the chinese engineers.

Hi Guys... My Wren fork decided to lose a dropout. Luckily I caught it before it let go completely. You can see from the pic that there is a little bit of epoxy and I was able to feel for thread engagement and there is only 4 threads holding the fork together. I would strongly suggest no one ride this fork aggressively. I was told that a 220mm rotor was fine by Wren until this happened, now they said to change back the 203mm.

I am a hard on bikes but dont wreck very often and when I do I typically lay it down. I like to freeride but dont do any big drops, just allot of hard breaking and soaking up bumps with arms and legs. You can see my riding style here...

Wren sent me a new Stanchion but my last 2 communications with them have been ignored. The fork needs a redesign but they said its going to be $12k a side for the tooling to change the dropouts, make them deeper and a bolting through axle, but they cant afford it.

For now I have used Red Loctite to secure this failed drop out and stanchion together and it appears to be holding but for how long? Please be careful with this fork.... I have a Mastodon that is in the mail to replace this thing.

Maybe I will cut the Wren into pieces? I have never felt so unsure of Mountain bike product. I cant sell it and risk anyone dying. View attachment 1924449
Don’t be such a sissy I have absolutely ridden the piss out of mine it’s just fine maybe the had to refill the gluing/epoxy machine on your fork. Or it was the first or last in the run possibly. I have had my juggernaut up to 53mph* (down a 7% grade) towing a burley coho xc trailer.

Really?

So I had a few of their forks back in the day and one of them twisted all the way around at the crown/steerer.

I’m pretty sure they have had a fair number of failures, maybe they need to do a little R & D, or perhaps their quality inspector took a long vacation.

I wouldn’t trust their stuff, but good on you to be so supportive, I’m sure they’ll pay your widow well when you die after a fork failure … 53mph towing a trailer, precious 😆

Here in AK they are fairly rare, there's a few of them, but even fewer are ridden hard. The V3 Mastodon goes to 160mm of travel and there's no good reason for the Wren.

I've had one for the better part of 10 years now that I run on my old custom steel fatbike that uses a 135mm front hub. I ride it on my Michigan XC style singletrack trails with zero concern. 🤷‍♂️

I don't know if it is the same fork as discussed in the thread, but I saw one Wren fork in the ITI this year, and the guy riding it seemed happy with it.

Just bought a Wren. Price was pretty much the same than Mastodon. 780€ vs. 820€. To my understanding Wren has a better cold weather performance.

I talked to him directly about it and the thing was nearly locked out with about 2" of suspension, not working as intended. He did it for shits and giggles...much like I race the Foes at Blue Booty in the winter. I think the story was someone gave it to him. It didn't "fall apart", but it wasn't working right either.

The negative with the V3 Mastodon is the spring system, since the negative doesn't self-equalize, this can cause it to suck down in the cold and require hooking up a pump to equalize, but that's not far off from the Wren, as cold will affect all air springs and you'll have to adjust. Air springs in a cold weather fork is dumb. But apart from that, the V3 Mastodon improves significantly on the cold weather damping performance, no longer being way over-damped in the cold IME. It's also an easy-to-work with TPC-style damper, so easy to change damping fluid, etc. I really hope it works out for you, but performance wise these forks aren't really close.

I can still return the Wren and change it to a Mastodon. Price-wise Mastodon is now cheaper. Would you recommend to swap it out? Is the difference so big?

The Wren is a chinese catalog fork with extremely crude "damping" and adjustments. It's not in the same quality field as Manitou. Manitou has some bizarre stuff IME at times, but it's still a far better fork in every way that matters. You only live once though, if you want to try the Wren, try the Wren.

I talked to Tyson in Nikolai, and he seemed not unhappy with it, but he was pretty tired and out of it. It was never that cold, so probably the best case for any squishy fork on that route.

oh to bad really after this fork mostly for the wrack option and easy maintenance, any option any one know of that is similar inverted or not but got option for (suspended) fork mounts/wrack, home mechanic friendly and can handle big loads on the braking caliper ?
