Got a Salsa Fargo with Shimano SLX 12-spd drivetrain, current wheelset has a 10-51 cassette Shimano microspline. Decided to have another set of wheels built and OOOPS, was built with a SRAM XD rear hub! My fault (senior moment).

So, I could put a SRAM XD 10-52 cassette on that wheel. Will it play nice and work well with the Shimano SLX drivetrain? Or am I asking for annoying problems (tuning, skipping, chain wear, other)?

thanks for anyone who has experience here and can advise.

Yes it work fine. You will have to tweak the B screw to set the guide pulley gap to the sprocket correctly but that's about it.
You could mix and match some more if you like becasue a SRAM Eagle derailleur will work with your Shimano 12s shifter too.

Thanks for response, yeah I figure a little B screw adjustment might be necessary.

No need to change the derailleur. I actually prefer the Shimano SLX components- crisper shifting.

We tested this and it worked fine for us.
but it is out of spec; according to shimano
However seems to work fine

and if you use 10-50T - certainly no issue that I can think of
Thanks! I might have to go with the 10-50T as it's harder finding the 10-52T. The 52T might also require a little more adjustment when swapping wheelsets I'm figuring.

The consensus seems to be stick with the same brand for the Shifter and Derailleur, and for the Chain and Cassette. So if your using a Sram cassette, also use a Sram chain.
For most any hub I've seen the drivers are sold separately. I don't know any brand that you can't swap out the driver for around $100. Just pull off the XD driver and slip on a Microspline driver. There should be no reason you would have to replace the whole hub.

Wish I would have bought a hub with a swappable driver. I got a cheap Novatec D542 - BOOST 148 - Rear Hub - Black - 32h and put it on a spare Rim I had lying around. Was trying to do a quick and cheap project and it wound up biting me in the @ss when I specced it out wrong.

So my fault and trying to find the most cost effective solution.

I run SRAM cassettes with Shimano derailleurs/shifters on my 11 speed gravel bikes and 12 speed mountain bikes. They both work great. On the 12 speed everything feels better if you also have an SRAM chain. And the XX and XO cassettes are beautiful, lightweight machined works of art (and are priced like it- fortunately, I've always managed to find them at half price)

It's all good.

My preferred setup is sram cassette and chain. Sram ebike shifter with a shimano derailleur.

Sram shifters are Imo nicer, but their dérailleurs are overpriced and not as good as shimano. Best of both worlds.
