I have a FOX 2014 100mm CTD fork. The fork feels way too harsh for small bumps in the "descend" mode, but it feels okay on big smooth bumps. It's so stiff it feels like the front wheel comes off the ground for some small sharp bumps. It feels like the compression damping is way too stiff. I can't even feel the difference between "descend" and "trail".
It's been like this ever since I got it. It took me a while to realize anything was wrong. This is my first 29er, and the wheels help to smooth things out. At first I thought it was supposed to be this stiff, then I noticed "Descend" feels the same as "Trail". I'm still not sure if it's a defect, or just a bad design.
How can I get this fixed?
Bike: 2013 Santa Cruz Tallboy carbon
Fork: 2014 Factory Series 32 FLOAT 29 100 FIT CTD fork.
My riding weight w/gear is about 160 pounds.
I'm about 6'1".
Frame size extra large.
90mm stem.
My shock pump says I'm using 65 psi. At that setting I use about 90 mm travel for the biggest bump around here.
Update 8/4/2014:
I Finally sent my fork back to Fox. They fixed it and returned it within about 5 days. No charge, covered by warranty.
Now the fork feels more plush for small bumps. Now I feel a difference between "Descend" and "Trail". Now I feel the fork bobbing while pedaling hard in "Descend".
I'm satisfied with it now. (I would have been happier if I didn't have to go thru the hassle of sending it back.)
