I have a Rockshox Recon Gold TK 29 120mm. I have only had it out a few times, so I adjusted the air pressure, but didn’t mess with the rebound. I decided it was time to get that dialed in, and that I would start by counting the clicks from slowest to quickest and start in the middle – seems logical.

When started to turn it, I realized it was VERY difficult to turn in either direction. In fact I had to grasp it so hard that after a few turns, it left blisters on my fingers. I put on padded rubberized gloves and continued. So as I turned it toward the fastest rebound…20 clicks…30 clicks…more…uh oh, this thing isn’t stopping and it sure isn’t getting any easier either. The clicks were very audible so it seemed like it was still adjusting. At that point I began turning it back toward slowest rebound….more than 30 clicks and still no stopping in that direction either, still clicking, still hard as hell to turn.

I hopped on the bike on the driveway and had a new issue….where it was quiet before, there was now a nice oily/juicy vacuum sound when the fork was rebounding, almost as if it was low on oil and sucking some air through the circuit.

What the heck did I do to this thing and how do I fix it?

If the recon gold is anything like a recon silver, the rebound adjustment lever goes from full open to full close in a quarter turn. you basically went from full open to close, and you were just spinning the tiny allen key in the slot. I'm surprised you didn't strip out the rebound adjustment screw. The "woosh" sound is normal when you push down and let up real quick when the rebound is all the way in slow rebound "turtle" mode because the oil passages are restricted. Give it a quarter turn towards the fast rebound "rabbit" direction and it shouldn't have that sound anymore.
