Upgrading Rear Shock on Trek Remedy Compatibility

Hey guys I was looking into upgrading my rear shock on my 2010 Trek Remedy 9.9 to the new Fox Float X2 and was told by FOX that even though the measured stock shock I want to replace is a 7.875x2.25 and they make that in both the Float X and the Float X2. They said that the Remedy has a proprietary eye to eye length and that nothing on the aftermarket would fit this bike. Is this true?

Thanks

Monarch plus in a Trek Remedy 8 (the last of the 26ers)

I got the bolt and nut from pro bolt. They are solid steel a bit heavy but I don't care (don't be a ***** we are talking about grams here) you will also need washers for the top where the bolt and nut meets the bearing but not essential. In my later search I found trek aluminium bolts you can use. Just an advice if you buy from pro bolt, get the lower bolt as well the original I have from Trek is aluminium and I don't think it will last for ever because the aluminium is very soft and every time you torque it gets scary and scarier

here some pics

the DRCV at the bottom with all it's original hardware. KEEP the 2 black spacers for the top because you will need them. You can reuse the lower hardware too but if you are going to do this maybe get new ones

the monarch plus with offset bushings and pro bolt bolt.
If I could do this again I would ask for 38.8 mm lower bushing for the bottom because I ask for 40 mm bushing and is pretty tight but doable and now it squeal a bit. The people from offset bushings are pretty cool just email them and ask exactly what you need I think they cut them on demand. They even manage to offset the top bushing (10M) by a little bit

clearance of the piggy bag of the Rock Shox Monarch plus in the Trek Remedy 8 26er. My frame is SMALL by the way I would asume it will fit any remedy frame size

Thanks man for the help. Will I need any of the fox mounting kits for the top or do the offset bushings come with everything I need besides the top bolt? Now I guess I just need to decide between the float x and the float x2. Since I never really use my climb switch right now Iam leaning towards the float x2.

This is a very interesting thread.

I have a '14 Remedy 9. The rear suspension seems super-duper plush to me as is. It takes drops/jumps in stride.

Was the change over to a different shock worth the effort?
This is my time to shine man

you can make a volume reducer with zip ties on your DRCV.

I did the conversion because I was never happy with the DRCV exactly like you too soft or too hard I think is basically a very good XC+ shock if you follow their settings. Shame on you Trek for putting the DRCV on such an amazing frame I guess for the fuel is fine. But they put it even in the slash/scratch whatever is called today

BUT most importantly because I like to disobey and according to the marketing department the only way I can have a monarch plus on a trek is buying the new size bike with a $6K+ price tag for the more expensive slash

Trek remedy 8 2012 (the last of the 26ers)

For the people wondering if it's worth to put a monarch plus on the trek remedy I would say YES! I don't want to sound overly hyped but is just a better shock as the manitou mattoc is a much better fork compared to the fox 32. Now everything just feel right for me, like if the bike and the terrain are one together. That ''magic carpet'' feeling people talk about I guess.

Am I faster I DON'T CARE but the ride is much more enjoyable and that is for sure. I remember always bouncing around with the DRCV when pedalling sitting down on rocky parts. I know you can put less air to make it more comfortable but then you bottom outon the drops even after the zip tie volume reducer. By the way I am still trying to bottom out the monarch plus and I also did a volume reducing with some velcro straps

monarch plus ghetto volume reducer with a velcro strap (I just like to modify **** sorry)

For me the whole experience was a pleasure from the early stages of the research. Thanks uncle somebody, dhalsey and pikls94 (from pinkbike) they gave me a great start, founding the best dealers for the parts that don't rape you with the postage and the assembly process: rubber gloves, beer and power ballads!

Trek Remedy 9.8 29er

Was able to install a 2016 RS Lyric dual position 160/130 RC3 and Monarch RC3. Purposely didn't use any offset bolt/bushing on the Monarch to slacken the bike slightly to better balance it for the 20mm taller front end. No interference issues between the shock, seat tube and Evo Link. Geometry feels great now. Was running the new fork with the stock Reaktiv shock 197x57 (7.75x2.25) and it felt too slack which is ok for descents but not great for the climbs or handling. The Monarch at 200x57 raises the back end by 7.4mm (2.46 leverage ratio x 3). Shock is the ML tune (Medium Damping / Low Compression Tune) which is better for the leverage ratio of the bike.

Pedaling while standing up (in the climb position) is better than the Reaktiv shock (less bobbing) however sitting down and pedaling, the Reaktiv shock is slightly more efficient (less bobbing). But the descents is a different story. The Monarch is so much plusher/nicer.

18.5" Frame
Weight as shown with the Lyric/Monarch Plus Combo with 2.5" Minion DHF/2.4" XR4 tires and XTR pedals is ~ 28.8lbs

Hey nice upgrade! What did the new shock do to your geometry? Steepen or slacken the HT angle? Raise or lower the BB? Keep it all the same?
