As Nino is now racing a 120mm travel bike, you’d think that Scott would have a lightweight version for sale soon. Has anybody heard anything?

I got the "impression" that many 2021 Scott models are already on the boat headed toward the US because all the 2020s sold out earlier than expected. However, there are NOT redesigned Sparks or Spark RCs in that shipment. The lack of Olympics screwed up their planned release and Nino didn't find any of the redesigns faster than his current bike so they're taking more time to make it a tangible improvement. Expect the new Spark RC to break cover around the Olympics next summer with availability Spring 2022.

I'm not surprised by any of this. There's not much that would make my '19 Spark faster. 10mm more reach and +1 degree on seat tube angle, but that's very specific to my fit. I go back and forth between my Spark & my Trail hardtail, and there is no way I can manage the same pace with the trail geometry on rolling twisting trails.

In regions where the riding is defined by long climbs and long descents, I think the current trends toward steep seat tubes, slack head tube, and long reach are actually faster...but that's not the terrain where world cups are held.

The 2021s have started arriving in stores. Same frame for the Spark as far as I can tell. Check out "myridecentralcoast" on Instagram.
The bike in the pic is not an RC model and is creatively taken to not give away the fork or allow geometry to be compared. I'm not sure how you get that there is no change based on that single picture.

I’m liking what I’m seeing so far. The Spark 910 has a really cool sparkle-effect, as can be seen on the IG-page provided below.

The Genius 920 has taken a big step up in terms of components! It’s now similar to last years 910. (FOX 34 > FOX 36, GX/SLX brakes > XT throughout).

Unfortunately this does not translate to the Spark 920 which seems to have the same specs as every year with GX/SLX.

I don't know how silly that gear is. Depends where you race. Bonelli park is home to UCI XCO level HC races and I've seen some of the worlds best HAB up the steep climbs. Granted they may be pushing a 34 10 50 but there are some crazy steep stuff. I run 32-10/50 as an older dude and "mere mortal" there are trails here in So Cal I wish I had lower gear.
