A trick to load grease into the gun is to open the bolt on top. Then do a few pumps until grease comes out. I think that bolt lets air out. Without opening it I was not able to load grease.

My issue with greasing is that the seals blow out, and it's a pain to replace them.

Hello fellas and gals.

I was once a failure with the SC grease gun. Now I'm KOM. Tho like CrozCountry above me I don't really like how the whole setup is designed. I'll tell ya the secret to my success...good luck with yours. If you have the SC gun---don't rush out and buy another. It will work with a bit of patience.

First: definitely follow the instructions for the grease gun assembly. I used visegrips w/o too much force. Messed up the outside...but what could I do...I was panicked. It worked and I got the grease flowing...just experiment.

Second: turn yer bike over bud! DO NOT perform with bike on a stand as you will prob end up feeling like me and want to die...I had so many greasy failures with my Blur TRc in a stand. So...bike flipped over. Say it with me. I would still be effing around with it in a stand but I saw a shop mechanic do it this way...and god bless him it worked right away for me!!!

Third...pop it on to the zertzzzz...thread it up...drop it pop it and twerk with the zertzzzz....twerk....twerkkkk....twerk with the zertzzzzz.....

Squeeze the tube ...squeeze the tube...

There should be not much of a greasy mess.

Third: like CrozDaddy above says...the seals get blown out if u put too much lube...I do it every time.

Fourth: My main problem with the design---if for some reason you have to take one of those pivot axles out...god help you. There is no way to get uncontaminated loctite back onto those threads...mainly because it is next to impossible to get those bearings out.

Fifth: Don't ever attempt to remove those bearings in the lower pivot. Do not attempt. That is not meant for you.

Cheers me laddies and I hope this werks for ya!

^^^ your experiences parallel mine right up to step 3 . . . I, however, have had no problems with getting pivot axles out, or bearings for that matter with the SC tools. I replace my bearings annually, and from removal of the lower link, to back on the bike with a complete overhaul of the link, takes 45 - 60 minutes, tops.

yeah..good to hear. .. no prob getting the axles out...but I always fail at getting the bearings out of the lower link. they always just blow up and I'm left with four sparkling races and a useless lump of metal. Sooooo.....since I'm never able to get the bearings out....the pivot axles go right back in through the grease. Hence the futility of loctite application for me...unless the lower is sparkly new.

Weird cuz I always get the out of the upper link. No probs there.

chuckmicD sayz it.

I only add grease about 1-2 times a year, but I dis-assemble the links every now and then to clean out the dirt and grit.
I also dont use locktite on the axles. Ive never had a problem with them loosening.

Wait...I thought half the point was to flush out contaminated grease. You're not supposed to pop the seals? Just a little squeeze? If you can put new grease in, the old grease must've come out somewhere. How hard should I squeeze?

Also, do you have to use the blue wheel bearing grease the gun comes with, or can I use my better grease gun with multi-purpose lithium grease (brown) that I use on my Jeep?

I'm going to try this next weekend, could someone make a step by step video and whack it on youtube please! i'm sure it would be a sticky :D

Don't like the sound of blowing the seals and all this zerk action LMAO!

Do regular grease guns in a store take the same cartridges that SC use?

I'm looking for a good gun I can use and decent marine grease. Something I can get in the UK. Oddly, looked around Halfords (rubbish store but does a lot of automotive stuff and tools) and couldn't find any grease guns. DIY places only seem to have stuff for DIY, not grease tools.

SC gun I never have much success with. With a hell of a lot of pressure onto the nipple I can just about get it working but half the time the grease just comes out over the nipple rather than into it.

Check out this thread. It has some pictures of options for a small grease gun that takes 3oz. cartridges.

It sounds like the tip of your grease gun might be damaged and not fitting on the zero any more. Instead of full replacement you could just replace the tip, but on the other hand a new gun wouldn't cost much.

Good luck!
