Just relax and stay loose, practice bunny hopping the proper way and bringing the bike up into you. And like others said, try to whip or tweak or something, for some reason it takes your mind off being scared and lets you be smoother in the air.

J hops are split into two motions. Front end up, compressing the rear then moving the handlebars foward picking up the rear end. Ie: hands first then feet. good advise about tweaking in the air too. Tricking really helps to not dead sailor. (though my jumping abilities are limited skill wise)
