I just got a Team Marin 1 for my son. The Marin website says the cranks are "Marin Forged Alloy 1x12, Hollow Spindle, Steel Narrow Wide 32T Direct-Mount Chainring". I want to put a smaller chainring on this. The cranks and bottom bracket are actually stamped "Samox" not Marin. I looked up Samox cranks, and it says they have a 3-bolt chainring interface, so I assume this is the SRAM direct mount interface. However, looking at the crank this doesn't look like what it has. Does anyone know what interface this crankset uses?

I can find nothing on these. Yet the Samox site lists the mountain cranks as Direct Mount 3-bolt. Does that look anything like a lock-ring on the spindle? I find it somewhat odd in any case because there appears to be some sort of clocking to the crankarm. I might contact Marin for any insight. Good for me to know because I am considering a Team 1 to replace my twelve year old XC bike which I use on urban trails.

The cranks are stamped "SAMOX" and "TAC-40". I can't find anything on the internet about these. The SAMOX website shows all their mountain cranks as starting with an M, such as M3, M5, etc. These look the closest to the M3, but those are shown as having the SRAM 3-bolt interface.
