Stumpjumper evo bash guard/chain guide

Has anyone ever removed the bash ring and chain guide? Would it be a good idea or could the chain potnetially jump off the top ring?

I'm starting to hate the gritty lumpy feel from the chain when it gets muddy, which is most of the time here in the UK!

The better chain guides with jockey wheels are a bit pricey for my liking.

Hmm, only heard good things about the chain guide and bash ring. Haven't been able to ride my EVO yet due to the snow, so haven't really any experience with it myself. Clean the chain might do the trick?

Out where I ride a bash is almost required. Most my buddies with Stumpjumpers and Enduros removed the stock bash/guide (stock guide sucks) and run MRP 2x. The guide is really nice and the Taco bash works great. It is out of the way and it helps with cleaning the ring/crank area.

Yeah i thought about the mrp x2. A friend of mine has one on his Ellsworth and it's a lot smoother, and a lot less ugly.

Looks like a cotton reel stuck to the bike.
