SRAM DUB GX vs Shimano SLX hollowtech 2

I’m starting my first frame up build and I’ve decided on most of my parts but have some crank questions.

My last two bikes have had GXP NX cranks and SX DUB. I didn’t have any crank or BB issues but I hate SRAM RDs and shifters. I for sure will be going SLX or XT for the cassette, shifter, RD, etc.

My frame takes a 73mm threaded BB. I could go GX DUB BB and crank or I found a great deal on a XT hollowtech 2 BB and SLX crank.

Is there any reason to go one over the other? There is a fair chance this bike will end up being full SLX but if the crank doesn’t match I don’t really care.

I assume you're talking 12spd Shimano. Definitely go with the SLX crank and BB. The hollowtech 2 system is solid (as is the Dub).

If you buy a Sram crankset, You probably will need to replace the chainring with a HG+ chain ring.

I've heard that you can use a Sram 12sp quick link (w/ the HG+ chain) to make a non HG+ chainring work though.

I don't seem to have any problem with my 11sp GXP NX crank and N-sync boost ring with my 11-42 XT RD and cassette. What sort of problems would I be having?

In regards to 12s Shimano

I may go 11 speed depending on what wheel set I go with. If I can find a good price for standard HG wheels I will go that route. I have a set of Bontrager wheels I could use for the time being but I'd need to stay with an HG hub.

I can get a 11 speed SLX crank and XT BB for like $125. Then the 11-46T XT 4 piece kit is only $229.

Shimano cranks are stronger. The new slx 12s crank is dirt cheap and really light.

Also, Shimano is still doing pinch bolts. Pinch bolts are bomb proof. Single fixing bolt (sram) is problematic for a lot of people, and prone to ham-fisting failures... Easy to avoid problems, but still.

The 12s sort of blue slx components look incredible. Way nicer than xt.

Not a fan of Shimano 12spd Deore, SLX, and XT cranks with the pinchbolt design. Too many fails. Low torque & reliant on plastic parts + the crank has a poor interface with the spindle (also a soft metal).

XTR is good, but pricy even 2nd hand.

Save $ and use a Sram crank take-off set like GX or Truvativ 7k and get a chainring that is Shimano HG+ compatible like from WolfTooth. You'll need a Dub BB, but they are cheap.
