In my opinion the Chisel is the best kept secret for a do it all XC, Trail, Gravel, Value rocket.
Besides a very good system configuration, it's got an OK fork and wheels, but they get the job done.

What as surprised and pleased me the most is how well it climbs. Geometry ?, I assume that's the reason, but as a Clyde I can state I'm not into hills, yet this bike goes up stuff no other bike I've owned could handle as well.

Loving my Chisel - great for mixed surfaces, light and comfy. Got me thinking about building up a second as a singlespeed (if only they were available as frame-only in the UK! :madman: ).

Anyone got any advice/pics of Chisel singlespeed builds? Ta.

It is a clear tape. I use it on the downtube and the chainstay. I put it on the bike two years ago and it is still there as good as the first day.

Hi j102, thanks for the reference, but I wondered if you had some pictures of the tape on the bike? Just to see how much you notice it and what it looks like from the side of the bike if you put it on the thin down tube

Any heavy riders in this bike? Taking a guy out that's 280. The wheels are a solid build. Just wondering how this frame fits will bigger guys.

Sorry. I have been getting home late this week. I rode my CX bike from work a couple of times though, but have not touched the Chisel this week.
Don't worry too much about how it looks. It looks great. It is a clear and thin tape, you can hardly see it.

Here you go.
Thanks j102! I can see you aligned the tape with the bottom of the "SPECIALIZED" letters, which indeed leaves a nice result. I thought it may be required to align with the bottom horizontal line of the A to get a good result, because the tape may otherwise be, well, too thin to be useful.

On my matte black bike it'll probably not be so unnoticeable, but I will look into matte tape. Any member pictures of matte protected frames are still welcome :)

I just ordered mine in the middle of Covid lockdown last Friday.without a test drive. It's the last one of this XL size and color combo. It's Arrived at the shop.
Forgot that EU version has different specs and color!

I love this color combo and hope it looks great in real life. Current bikes are a 2012 specialized carve and a 2016 specialized stumpjumper fsr 6fattie.

I went from a carve to a chisel, I think you're going to love it. It's everything good about the carve, but better.

I have a large for sale, unfortunately. Custom build. Central Michigan. Reba 120mm, 1x10 Shimano, Shimano hyrdos. Pm if interested. Only 5 or 6 rides. Only 1 was off road. My herniated disc's came back to haunt me. It sucks. I really love this bike.

Anybody running short stems on their Chisel?

I just fitted a 50mm Spec trail to the Rockhopper Pro and it feels great.

I think I’ll build the chisel with it and see what it’s like.

Hi,

I‘m in as well. Stefan from Germany, 1,92m tall and 115kg heavy. Complete Newbie to the world of MTB, but sucked in completely.
Bought the Chisel two weeks ago and rode the first trails already. Loved it! Working on my skills now. Bunny hopping, etc...

I changed a few parts on the bike already, such as the salsa quick release for the saddle post and obviously the pedals (reverse escape). Now, after the first rides i noticed i will need a slightly higher bar and can also deal with a wider bar overall. So I ordered a Renthal Fatbar with 40mm Rise and a 0 degree stem to go with it. Spacers too, but I‘ll first go without them / assembling them on top of the stem so i have them with me.

For me it was a decision between a Trek Roscoe 8 and the Chisel. Glad I chose the chisel. I really like the frame and i think it never HAS to leave me. From what i read at some point it might be worthwhile to upgrade to Reba shocks and finding a dropper post will be difficult (at least one that can carry 115kg and has the right diameter), but until I can ride it that hard i will still need a lot of time.
