I assume custom decals on the Fox?
Where did you get them made?
Been thinking about doing that, Ive still got the orange decals on mine, doesn't look horrible but they should be changed.

20 lbs 12 oz
Caili fade
Size large
Fox 32 SC
Roval Control SL's
Thomson seat post & stem
Fizik Airione saddle

Super impressive build. Beautiful bike. And under 21 pounds (for a large). Wow! Nice job. What was your total investment?
Thanks! I'm real happy with how it turned out. And impressed it was under 21lbs.
Have not had a chance to ride it yet since most of the trails here in Michigan are still unrideable.
I don't have a ton into it since a lot of parts were carry overs from a previous build and I also get a killer deal on stuff being on the local bike shops race team.

That doesn't seem correct:

Then we'd have the frames, and certainly the Epic's carbon should be significantly lighter than ALU.

So, I have no idea where those comparative numbers could come from.
Carbon is lighter than aluminum is a half-truth. Caad12's are lighter than most of the lower level pricepoint carbon models most brands offer. Where the real benifit of carbon comes into play is handling with frame stiffness, and additional compliance, if they lay up the carbon to have any.

Where the weight difference in carbon vs alloy mindset comes from is the parts hanging on the frame. Most manufacturers dont want to put highend parts on both carbon and aluminum models as the perceived value of the carbon model would decrease due to minimal weight difference from the customer's perspective.

Spesh doesnt have to overbuild the bb area of the chisel for pressfit bb setup, they are using a really light alloy, and welding process is very light as well. My Expert was 22 1/2lbs with a saddle, grip, and tire upgrade, with pedals and basic plastic specialized rib cage.

Built it today. I didnt ride it yet... let´s see how it rides this weekend.

Fox 34 120mm
XT M8000 brakes, XTR Freeza rotors
XTR shifter, XT derailleur, XT 11-42 cassette, XTR chain
SLX cranks, Saint bottom bracket, Absolute Black oval 36 tooth chairing
Easton EC90 seatpost
Selle Italia SLR Superflow seat
Easton stem
Renthal Fatbar Lite handlebar
DT Swiss E1700 wheelset with 54t ratchet
Continental X-King 2.4 tires, tubeless

I just realized you have 2.4 tires on it. How is it doing with the 2.4 tires? Any rubbing? I contacted Specialized and they told me 2.3 was the maximum recommended tire size.

"Italian" Chisel

Hello everyone, my name's Davide, from the Como Lake (Italy) :)
First of all, please forgive me for the language mistakes...
After some years of enduro riding, I now try to practice my endurance skills with a Cannondale CAAD 12 2018 and race (mostly marathon and mtb "granfondo") with a BMC Fourstroke 01 MY 2017. Although that's a fantastic, pure racing and funny machine (21,15lb) I was looking for a back up bike for my after work/muddy laps. I wanted it to be simple, solid, relatively cheap. Well, the Chisel 1X Expert is definitely what I was looking for: extremely playful, innovative (frame wise) nice looking and pretty light. After the first ride the "back to the origins" feeling was immediate; had lot of fun together with some Strava PR!!! :)
Unfortunately this is not a very popular bike in Italy (and in Europe I guess) as almost everyone over here is convinced that carbon is just the starting point to get some serious performance on a bike. IMO that's a shame...

For the weightweenies:
- Totally stock size M (with tubes) and no pedals: 11,08kg (24,42lb)
- Now: 10,95kg (24,14lb): tubeless, Shimano M520 pedals, Extralite grips, Vertu saddle

Also:
- Saved 370gr going tubeless!!! Tubes are 490gr
- Wheels: 877gr+1067gr= 1944gr
- Grips: 85gr
- Saddle: 254gr
- NX 11-42 cassette: 536gr
- Raceface Steel Ring 30t: 145gr!!!
- Fast Track 2.3: 685gr+690gr

My next steps in terms of weight shaving are:
- Wheels
- Pedals
- Cassette (I will put a Sunrace 11-46)
- Alu Raceface ring
- Seatpost
- Handlebar

Target is around 10,15kg (22,35lb), and considering that this should be my back up bike, that sounds good to me.
Here below a couple of pics of my very first ride with it (I know, bad quality, sorry...)

Really great frame, just wish it offered a tad more tire clearance, kind of a like hybrid between the Chisel and Fuse.

But if your wanting a lightweight frame and only intend to run 2.3's, I think the Chisel is one of the best deals around (only slightly beaten by a chinese carbon hardtail.)

Just ordered my Chisel frameset in the black / cali fade, XL.

Here is the build spec:
2019 Rock Shox SID, 100mm, 51 offset
XX1 boost Gxp 11-spd crankset, 32t
X01 1195 cassette
X01 shifters
X01 rear der
XT8000 brakes
160/160 XT rotors
XT8000 pedals
S works zee cage II left
S works carbon flat bar 700mm
S works stem 70mm -12 deg
S works carbon post 27.2, 0mm offset
Fizik Antares 00 carbon rails saddle
ESI chunky foam grips
Tripsporting 25mm ID carbon rims
Stan’s 25mm tubeless tape
e13 tubeless valves
Orange Seal sealant
DT Swiss 240 hubs with 54t ratchet
Fast Trak tires, 2.3” front & rear

I’ll send pictures and weights as I get it completed. Since it’s an XL, I don’t think it will be crazy light, but I’m ok with that as long as it rides well.

If anyone has any tips they learned along the way while building up their Chisel frameset, let me know. Seems like it will be pretty straightforward but seems like Specialized always throws in at least one head scratcher on their framesets.

Has anyone built this up with a di2 RD? Anyone know if there is a way to route the cable to the RD internally without drilling the frame? From all the pics I've seen it looks like there's only external routing to the RD.

Just ordered my frame. Parts are ready, some moved from the existing bikes and some are new. Hope to achieve below 10.5kg. By paper calculation, the weight is around 10.3

4. XT Di2 Kit, single shifter. Synchronize Shift
5. Seatpost: KS LEV Integra
6. Saddle: Fabric Scoop
