Hi again!

Any body here using the m8100 crankset for 1x12? I was wondering if the chainring it came with has an offset? I want to purchase a lighter chainring but cant decide if I need 0mm or 3mm offset for the chisel 2021 model. I measured the chain stay clearance at about 6.5mm with the m8100 crankset with a 34t chain ring. Oh and I'm using the m8100 10-51 cassette. Chain doesn't drop when I back pedal on the 51t.
I have the same setup. Shimano doesn’t use offset on the chainring as far as I’m aware. That’s a SRAM thing. Shimano uses spindle length to locate the chainline. So any Shimano chainring built for the m8100 crank will work.

I read in one forum that shimano uses a 3mm offset on their chainring for m8100. Sadly coudlnt find any information in shimano's website. I found in garbaruk's website that they sell chainrings for m7100/m8100 that have 3.3mm offset and no zero offset.

Ahhhhhhh having a hard time deciding which offset to go with. Probably will just put it on hold and just buy foam grips to lose the 60g. Hahaha.

My local bike shop placed too much sealant in my wheelset. I did not get any weight savings. Weighed my wheelset with tubes then with the sealant after and tadaaaa same weight. The tubes I ran were about 205 grams so they probably placed 205 grams of sealant in. Sad. It would be a waste if I remove some of them.

Yeah their chainrings might have a 3mm offset but there’s no options for other offsets. They use the same chainring across the board and get different chain lines with spindle widths. Any Shimano compatible chainring will work. Honestly I’d just buy a Wolftooth and call it a day.

Don’t worry about the weight on the sealant. Weight is the least of the benefits of tubeless.

Just looking at the pic you posted. I’d go with a strictly HG+ combatible chainring. HG+ chains are picky and it makes me leery when you see these cross compatible chainrings. Back when HG+ first hit the scene Absolute Black said their existing chainrings were compatible. They were definitely not. Made terrible noises and didn’t seat correctly. A couple months later AB had HG+ specific rings.

Will post a picture and the specs of the bike later when I'm not that busy to get more ideas from you guys.

Thanks a lot!

Has anyone ran a 120mm fork and a 1 deg slacker wolf tooth geoshift headset on their 2021+ chisel? I am thinking about going for more of a trail hard tail and considering either selling chisel frame and going to fuse or slacking out the chisel. The 120 fork and geoshift would make chisel around 66 HTA, which might be pushing the frame limits.

Yeah that might be pushing it a little. Tons of people have run 120mm with success by that geoadjust set may be a bridge too far. I wouldn’t really be that worried about the head tube but the seat stays chainstays and dropouts on this bike are kind of spindly to be doing anything too crazy. A fuse or the new Roscoe would probably be more up that ally.

Hi, what is the length of your stem?

does anyone have some long term feedback on the Sid 120 fork on the chisel? I have been running a Reba 120mm for a while on my chisel and considering swapping to the Sid to get a little more stiffness and better dampener.

Welp, my Chisel is off to its new owner. 😭

I got an Epic Evo to replace it, though I'm sure I'm going to miss the Chisel. Such a good bike, I think I'm going to end up with another chisel at some point, but for now I've got to thin the herd and rebuild some funds after buying the Epic.

Honestly, the SID 120 is a disappointing fork. Its very stiff in torsion and bending but there's too much compression damping and the negative chamber is too small so it has zero small bump compliance. Also, I never used full travel on it ever. In addition, I never really liked the Chisel at 120mm, I thought it made the front end feel eversoslightly better, but I didn't like how it made the STA slacker and it made climbing worse. Once I bought the 100mm air spring and swapped it onto the SID, I thought the Chisel geometry really shined. I never got full travel out of it with it set at 100mm either, though.

Isn't "I never got full travel out of it" a sign that you're running too much pressure?

I don't love the Sid, but it does fit with the Chisel being an XC bike. Fork does tend to sit higher in the travel when stock, but after adding a few spacers it's happier to move deeper into its travel. Doesn't feel as plush as my Fox 34 Rhythm fork but I think that may be expected.

I did have to send my Sid back for warranty, though. There was just so much stiction early in the fork's travel and it would hurt my hands after a few hours. It's still not quite as smooth as my Fox 34, but it's much better than it was.

I have no idea how the Reba feels...not sure if you're unhappy with something about it, or if you're just itching for an upgrade.

I can go 40% sag and 15psi under the recommendation and still never use all the travel. It defies physics, I just don't get it.

So running a ton of sag actually helped with my hands hurting, but my hands hurt too when I ran the recommended pressure. Is that a sign that the fork is bad or that its just poorly tuned from the factory?

I don’t like how much torsional flex the Reba has. I also have to run higher pressure to keep it from diving into travel. I read some reviews that the Sid was stiff and had good small bump compliance. Sounds like from your feedback I might be better going with a fox.

hi all,
first post here :) im struggling to find the right size for me, maybe you can assist me ;-)…. currently i ride a canyon roadlite which is sort of a gravel bike / roadbike geo with flat bars and 28mm tires. its xl sized. i am 6.2 tall and it suits well. so lets look at the chisel geos and theres the point i struggle to decide between large and xl …. can you see based on the geo chart what could be more suitable for me ?
would be a greaaaaaat help mates 👍

Looking forward to receiving it! I had a red 2021 Chisel Comp that I sold to help pay for my S-Works Epic HT. The HT is an incredible bike, but for an everyday thrasher with great handling, it's hard to beat the Chisel.

I forgot to ask you, did you include the bottom bracket? I'll post up pix of the build.

For 120mm the new mattoc pro can be considered in the under 1.8kg range with super trick damper and irt spring

I'm perfectly happy with my 120mm r7 pro at 1.65kg. but it needs to be modded to increase the negative chamber volume. And a replacement model is imminent.

Rockshox is not the only suspension manufacturer out there. Though the new Sid seems to boast a more linear air spring with increased negative air volume and better bushing overlap.

My Sid sl had nice small bump sensitivity but just didn't feel nice when the bumps got bigger and I had to send it in for lower leg play which took months to replace.
