Not the best pic but this is my 2021 Chisel Comp.

Image

Changes so far:
-S-Works carbon mini rise bars
-Spesh Enduro grips
-Shimano 2 pot XT brakes
-Fox Factory Transfer dropper 125mm
-Spesh bottle cage with multi-tool
-Spesh Swat seat mount with spare tube and CO2
-Shimano XT flat pedals
-DT Swiss X1700 wheels (supposedly 1780g without rotors but honestly didn't feel lighter than the stock rims)
-tubeless setup with Orange sealant

-Future changes
-Fox 34 SC 120mm (stiffer and +1lb lighter than stock)
-Shimano SLX crankset
-Shimano XT cassette (between these two, should lose close to 1 lb)
Hi there. I am considering the same upgrade. So no real difference in weight from the X1700. Any differences in ride quality? I know DT Swiss are durable, but I am hoping to get something else out of a set of wheels. The carbon route is not my preference.

Yes at times the Chisel with the stock wheelset is a flex abomination. But it works pretty well regardless.
Lol wouldn't it be funny if I've been going on about how plush the Chisel rides, and then mount my my nice wheelset realizing it was the squooshy stock rims all along?

I've got my axle kits, but going to do the whole project at once. Waiting on a couple of last pieces of Shimano 11spd and the Enve fork to arrive.

I did put a friend's wheel in the frame with 2.6" tires, and it did fit with a little clearance, probably enough. He had something knobbier than what I'm looking at (but both Maxxis).
Though his rims are 25mm IW and mine are 35mm(on the nice wheelset I haven't mounted yet). Not sure how big a difference that would make for overall width of mounted tire.

I have some Carbon wheels on mine that are kind of known for riding stiff and I still think it’s plush for a hardtail. Frame is definitely a little flexy.

I'm glad to hear that. The frame's flex is why I chose this bike. I want a full rigid bike that won't beat the hell out of me. So far I'm very pleased.

Anyone know the max tire size for a Chisel 2021 Frame. Trying to see if it can fit 2.6 Barzo's 2.0 or if Im better of with 2.35's
I have a 2.6" Maxxis Rekon on order. I'll let you know if it fits, but it may be next month.
I put a friend's knobbier 2.6" tire (Maxxis Minion?) in the frame, and it technically fit but without as much wiggle room as I'd like. I think the Rekon is lower profile so we'll see.
If it doesn't fit on rear, I'll use it on the front and run a Rekon 2.4" rear, as I was planning to go 1 size up in the front anyway.
Rigid fork.

I'm running 2.4 Wolfpack Trail (front) and Cross (rear) on my 2021 Chisel. Both fit with good clearance on Hunt XC wheels. I have found that tyre pressure is critical on these tyres, too little and they feel a bit 'balloony' and you lose feel and too hard and they ping off everything... even a few psi makes a difference. 22 and 24 psi (F&R) seems the sweet spot for me (I weigh 86kg)

After trying out the magic mary/big betty combo on my other bike, I wonder what the same tyres could do on my chisel, especially that now is the rainy monsoon season. Those tyres just dig in like mad and I have no problem going up steep muddy slopes whatsoever. But they do weigh 50% more than ground controls.
