Spank or Funn?

Due to a short stack height and recently installed 155mm cranks, I need to put an even higher rise bar on of my bikes. I'm looking at the 75mm rise Spoon 800 or the 75mm ride Funn Upturn.

I'm not sure which one to go with, or which one would look less goofy.

Spank:

Funn:

You could try the FUNN Equalizer stem, has 10mm of rise and run whatever 50 or 60mm rise bars you like best. I run the FUNN stem on mine and my wife's bike and 50mm bars. The stem is great looking and built well. I run the Pro Taper 50mm rise bars, they are great, tone down a lot of the trail chatter.

Keep in mind that while shorter cranks increase your seat height, and therefore to keep your same pedaling position, you do need to increase your bar height, that by doing so, you are changing your descending/standing fit.

I struggled with this a bit on certain bikes, and I actually ended up having to go down on the bar height/stem spacers to keep from washing out the front end.

I have a set of spank vibrocore bars. No issues with them, other than found I don’t like 8 degree backsweep.

Honestly it likely comes down to what is cheapest, what you like the looks of the most, or maybe even just “what sort of jokes do you want to hear other people make about your bike” :p.

I'm tall and run 75mm bars. Presuming you angle the bar rise somewhere close to the plane of the head tube rather than straight up and reduce the reach, speaking for myself I've found it important to lengthen the stem and get the grips back closer to where they were intended relative to the front tire's contact patch. The taller the bars, the more the ideal stem length might venture towards unfashionable. I'm running 55mm stems which are uncommon nowadays. But the front feels good. With typical 40-45mm stems combined with tall bars I had similar issues with front end traction.

Tall bars look cool with crossbars. Why not a Stooge Junker bar, Stridsland Anchor, or (to be zoot carbon) a Whisky Milhouse?

A really long time ago I funn 50mm rise bars on my bike. They snapped at the bend (no clamping surface anywhere near it) as I was pedaling into a jump. The bars were pretty new (maybe 3 months, and I had no big crashes or anything else that may have contributed to the break. I sent pics to funn with details to let them know they had a questionable failure that they might want to look into and they blew me off with zero concern. I haven't bought another set of their bars since.

Spoon is a known entity to me, and they make killer stuff. Been running an Oozy stem, Oozy Vibrocore bars and Oozy rims for probably....5 or 6 years now? Top notch stuff. I think the Spoon line may be a rung or two down the ladder though. Been a while since I looked into them.

The problem is they're only 760mm wide.
