I have a 50 t garbaruk on my mtb. I just ordered a smart direct drive trainer which i will be using with my mtb. If I have a max cog of 34 or 40 cassette on my trainer will I have a problem with my chain when I move my bike over to the trainer?

Your chain should be fine. You would need to adjust the B-screw to get good shifting back. When I put my bike with 10-42 cassette onto my trainer with 11-28 cassette, it'll shift slow and if I want to shift to a smaller cog I usually have to double tap up shift then 1 downshift. But I just find a happy gear in the middle and use ERG mode anyway so I don't readjust the derailleur for the smaller cassette.
