Hey all, with Shimano changing the way they package their brakes, here is a how-to video on getting them installed, caliper adapters, everything you need. This applies for all 12 speed and 11 speed brakes that Shimano produces today, XTR/ XT/ SLX/ Deore.
Would you guys add anything to it?

Kind of. You have to use an 11 speed chain with the 11speed brake, or else you'll get severe chain suck and will need to bleed the brakes every other month.

Also, make sure to get the appropriate powerlink/quicklink for the brake you buy. Last thing you'd want on the trail is to break a lever and not have the correct powerlink for your chain.

Shimano are good brakes, too bad some people are experiencing wondering bite points on the shifters.

I remember the old days when you could use 9speed brakes with 8 speed shifters, but now the cable pull on the derailleur is no longer the same between their 9 speed and 12 speed brakes.

I’m feeling rather inadequate right now... have to admit one of my bikes is still equipped with 10 speed brakes. {embarrassed}

Meanwhile I upgraded the drivetrain to 11 speed. Compatible or do I need a whole new bike? Believe it or not the frame is 8 speed and the saddle is {gasp} a 7 speed throwback — ancient.

Guess I better start over. I don’t even know what speed the handlebar and pedals are. How can I tell?
