New Bike Day

I bought an NX build, with the carbon wheel upgrade from Jenson. Took about 8 weeks to receive the bike. For some reason mine came with a Fox Transfer dropper, and a WTB seat, which was a nice surprise. 30.5 lbs. out of the box, which is pretty darn good.

I swapped over XT brakes, XT derailleur, XT Cassette w/OneUp 50T, XT chain, XT shifter, Renthal FatBar, 35mm Apex stem and switched-out the Aggressor and DHF to 2.6 Nobby Nic front/2.3 Rock Razor rear. For now, I'm keeping the NX cranks and bottom bracket. Came out to 29.2 lbs.

The more forward seating position feels very Moto to me. I love it! Other than that, the Ripmo feels similar to my Pivot Mach 5.5. I immediately felt comfortable.

I had one longish ride over the weekend. As others have mentioned, the Ripmo climbs great, feels light on its feet, is quick turning and super fun. Is it leaps and bounds ahead of the Mach 5.5? Personally, I think the differences are marginal. Hard to find a bad bike these days.

""I talked to Ibis last week about this and they said they are working on one but no ETA.

I'm going to buy this one:

OUTPOST CORNER BAG""

I ordered one as well, hope it fits!.

It fits and works great! I just wished I could fit more things in it, but you dont realize how big a 29er tube really is...

I can fit 1 tube, 2 CO2 cartidges and adapter, a tire lever, 2 quick links, multi-tool, energy gel and maybe stuff a granola bar in there too. Would be cool to be able to stuff my windbreaker in there but I would have to find somewhere else for the tube.

Day 3 on Ripmo

Finally got mine built up late last week, and have 3 good rides on it. I'm 5'11" and came from a Large HD3, and took the drivetrain and stem over to a Large Ripmo. 34" inseam, shorter torso, big ape index. So I'm using a 32mm Haven stem, 760 Next SL 10mm rise bars, no spacers below. Feels perfect. On the HD3 I had 40mm rise 800mm Renthal bars -- this feels nearly the same.

I'm in Lyons, CO and the trails are super rocky, technical, chunky, drops etc. And I spend a ton of time in Breckenridge which has big climbs, lots of rocks. I tend to ride more primitive trails, and never machine built flow. Ripmo immediately felt faster than the HD3 climbing and on straight DHs. I sessioned a familiar DH a few times and learned to turn the Ripmo on tight stuff -- really need to get over the front wheel and some rear brake.

Times confirmed it... going 85% (or maybe it just felt easy) I set PRs on all 3 rides. Yesterday was at Keystone DH trails, and beat many of my best times on my 2014 V10, as well as on a Ripley and the HD3 both during the Keystone Big Mtn Enduro. Now I want to sell the V10, it's not as fun to ride, and I hit everything on the Ripmo as I can on the V10. Truly amazed.

Also in the pics you might notice the ShockWiz, it's super cool to help tuning. Took 2 rides to dial in the fork, and 1 day at Keystone to dial in the shock.

Build:
2019 Fox 36 Factory Grip2
Fox X2 rear
Saint brakes w/ 180 freeza rotors
942 wheels with I9 hubs
Aggressor and DHF 2.5WT tires
Next SL 760 x 10 rise bar/Easton Haven 32mm stem, no spacers below
Renthal super tacky grips
Bike Yoke 185 dropper w/ WolfTooth remote (stellar)
Old Fizik Gobi saddle -- 3rd bike!
2016 Next SL 175 cranks 32 front
Eagle XX1 derderder, shifter, cassette, chain
XTR trail pedals or Saint 820 pedals (Saints are great, just heavy)
MRP carbon chainguide and bash guard, from HD3

@MINImtnbiker Interesting that you mentioned going at 85%. I did my first Ripmo ride on what used to be a big(ish) ride for me. Up Wapiti trail from Heil Ranch, loop on top, and down Picture Rock into Lyons where my wife picks me up. When I finished, I wasn't tired at all. I felt like I could've turned around and did it again. Ripmo does everything great, and with less effort. Can't wait to get a few more rides in. Hopefully tonight, if it doesn't rain:)

This is how I felt during my demo ride too. Less tired than normal.

Ripmo build help

Having a bit of an issue with my Ripmo build... my rear axle doesn't want to thread through the frame. I was almost done with my build and had installed my hanger and derailleur as the instructions suggested, but my axle will only get about half way into the dropout before experiencing significant resistance. The threads do look a little flat on the inside, but nothing too bad. I'm afraid if I really torque down on it they'll strip. Any suggestions?

That looks like an alignment issue. try treading it in from the other side and see if it lines up. Doesn't take much to be out of speck. I had something similar on a santa cruz, but they put the threads on the hanger and I was able to massage the dropout perpendicular to mount the hanger.

Good news... I contacted Ibis and Chuck recommended threading the axle through the opposite side of the frame. It was a bit rough, but as the axle approached full stop it pushed out some metal and paint. I greased the axle threads, worked it through the frame several more times from both sides, and it's now turning smoothly. After reinstalling the hanger, derailleur, and wheel, everything seems to be lining up well. Thanks to Ibis for answering an email on Saturday morning and within thirty minutes of send. Pretty impressive. I was damn-near despondent, after having taped the frame, cutting and installing all of my cables, brakes, dropper, etc.

Wow, I thought I had a sick Ripmo coming but your build makes mine look like a pleb bike. :(

Well even with the Invisiframe kit and extra rubber pieces where I thought they were needed I still got a big paint chip and some scratches. Oh well. Now she's broken in.

These 2.5 Aggressors seem to pick up a lot of rocks. I hear rocks rattling around the swingarm area quite a bit. More so than I recall from 2.3 DHR2s.

Join the club! I have the same scratches...thank god for a 7 year frame warranty. I'm really curious to see how well this frame will hold up over time with how much rocks get kicked up into the frame and then crushed into it...
