On my Ripley mastic was the same thickness as the rubber, so I ran a piece length wise following the glued on protector and then another on top. Doing something similar here would probably keep the stock piece in place and quiet things down a bit more.

So maybe the real question is, when is Ibis going to get their sh!t together and make chainstay protectors that don't fall off?

(Edit for clarity: I love my Ripmo, and every other part of the frame build/ride has been dreamy. Best cable routing I've seen, fantastic finish on the bike, and the ride is sublime. Now if they could just fix this ONE thing....)

This is a custom frame bag by Kurt Sandiforth. Contents: pump, tube, patch kit, two quick links, multi tool, chain tool, replaceable hanger, zip ties, (1) tire lever, dyna-plug kit. There is still room for food. Apologies for the sideways photo.

Picked my Ripmo up yesterday. 2018 Fox RC2 fork and X2. :( Oh well. At least I finally have it after 10 weeks of waiting.
So I guess I can answer my question as of today. I just picked up my new Ripmo with 2018 fork and shock. I really did want the new latest and greatest, but I will settle for having my bike now and being able to ride it this summer. I just need to go back to get the decals put on the rims. So stoked to finally have it, and I am at about 1.5 months in. I am for sure lucky to not be waiting longer with a custom build.

That bag looks almost exactly like the bag that Alpinethreadworks sell. It works well and i like it more than the one from Blackburn.

It does from the outside. The only visible difference is the material has a bit of padding to silence/protect things from moving inside the bag. I did have a bag that Neal made and it was awesome quality. I wanted to buy local, Kurt is from Grass Valley. This bag seams to be as bomber, time will tell.

I like the design on my sons trek session. Two attachment points on the actual guard that use zip ties on the inside of the chainstay. Not as sexy as without zipties but its not going anywhere either.

Not trying to rub anything in, and I'm sure it was just luck of the draw.....but I picked up my Ripmo today and it has '18 X2 and '19 Fox 36 Grip2 fork.
That's just the way things go. If for nothing else I was really looking forward to the 2019 fork as I can imagine it will be easier to service. The rc2 bladder will be fun to service I'm sure.
