There's a lot of beef on the head of that bolt. I'd remove the cover bolt with the cassette tool and that bolt will probably just come out. There's a lot of extra resistance when it's trying to push the crank arm off. I bet someone loctited the bolt instead of greasing it.

I like your idea of removing the lockring first, then working on the stuck bolt without any added resistance from the pressed on crank. Once I get out the stripped bolt, I can use the bolt from the other side crank arm to try to pull the crank arm off.
pull off the other side crank arm first.. in case it eats up the only extracting bolt you have left ;) if that happens.. i dont think youll be able to salvage the stuck on crank and at this point might wanna consider cutting the stuck on crank arm off :( replacing one crank arm is easier on the wallet

any attempts made yet?? i like the idea of undoing the lockring to just free up the bolt.. maybe using some kind of universal puller to free the crank?? im not sure what your pushing against (axle?) and if its solid enough for that task though.. the aim isnt to damage other parts

I was able to remove the opposite side crank, so the other extractor is ready to go. It creaked and popped pretty hard while I pulled it despite having lots of grease in there. Apparently it’s a common issue with this crank model.

I have a new crankset that I plan to install so if I have to cut this crank arm off I won’t be upset.

You could try to epoxy the correct size Allen key into the bolt head with a high psi material like Belzona 1221 specifically made for metal repair. The epoxy will take up the space and is incompressible. Of course you will lose the Allen key in the process. Belzona is available on e-bay in one use packets for about $40-50 bucks.

I JB Welded a cheap L shaped Allen wrench into one before then used an old steel seatpost as a breaker bar to get leverage to turn it.

If it's not too deep, you can also Dremel a large slit into the bolt then use a chisel or something like a screwdriver.

I removed the lock ring, sprayed everything with PB Blaster, tried an EZ Out with my impact wrench. No go.

I tried a long torque wrench with socket and stripped out the socket. No go.

Now I’m going to let it sit overnight and think about things.

Nicely file it to the next size allen key head size. So maybe 10mm would be the next size up.

Take the self extracting nut out.
Heat the crank with a heat gun. Then spray the nut with freeze spray lubricant.
Unwind the nut.
Job done.

Wind it back up install the self extracting nut and extract the crank with the new hex size and keep using the nut.....

This way you have a re-usable part.

ez out no go.. did it strip out of the stuck fastner?? or just wouldnt bugde? maybe more powerfull impact gun?

shoot some whatevr lube you got ( PB Blaster you mentionned) drench it.. if you lean teh bike down so a 'pool' in the axle.. might get into the stuck threaded area.. retry the next day..

no shame in throwing in the towel and cutting the crank off if your already set on replacing it ;) though it would be nice to actually get it undone .. learning expêrience if nothing else ;) kudos to you for keeping it going before a permenent replacement solution taken in effect

If you buy another bike, you can leave it.
