Bought a new '08 Fox Vanilla fork. I used the "purple" spring for my weight that came with the fork. It was still too harsh, so I orderd the "black: spring from Fox. The black spring is for those less than 115lbs. I weigh 137lb (low 140's with gear). Dang thing is still too harsh. This is the lowest rated spring Fox offers!
By "harsh", I mean square edge bumps shoot right through the fork/handlebars into my hands and arms. I have a carpal tunnel/RSI problem with my right hand/arm - so I need the fork to make things as smooth as possible. On another bike, I have a '05 Vanilla with a "black" spring (same rating) - no problems. Obviously, the '08 Vanilla is "different". For one thing, the spring is taller (no spacer anymore) and much more stiff.
Some specifics:
Without the spring, the sliders move completely easily up and down. Given this and the fact that sag is only 1/2 ", tells me that the only thing it can be is that the fork spring is too siff and needs to be rated lower (an issue, since this is their lowest rated spring).
I bought the Vanilla because it is supposed to be the plushest fork out there and because it had worked for me on another bike.
So fork gurus, here are my questions:
1. Any ideas on how I can get the recommended 1 1/4 sag to improve the plushness of this fork? Is there anything else I can adjust?
2. Are there any air forks (e.g., Revelation) that I could purchase that would provide the plushness I'm after? At least with an air fork, I can better adjust the spring rate.
Thanks

Some specifics:
- I have compression damping set all the way to the left (off).
- Preload set all the way counterclockwise (minimum preload)
- Fork has had time to break in (little stiction)
- Tried rebound settings anywhere from 1 to 6 clicks from minimum
- Lockout force threshold knob - set fully counterclockwise
- I'm only getting 1/2" of sag (for a plush ride, Fox recommends 1 1/4" of sag)
- I've got a carbon handlebar, carbon bike (Mojo), Ergon grips, and large volume tires (WTB Mutano raptor 2.4")
