Problem servicing Fox Fork...help!

Just went to change the oil and seals on my 2006 Fox F90 RL

I got the damper and oil out of that leg all fine.

I moved on to the air spring side of the fork.....when I go to remove the foot nut on the bottom of the fork, it just spins, and I can even see the air spring spinning around inside as I'm trying to remove that foot nut.

Is there a way to fix this? I obviously can't do anything until the air spring is out.

EDIT: was I supposed to keep air in the chamber before I tried to loosen that nut? (I let the air out before I did anything else)

Does that foot not allow you to insert a screwdriver into the slot inside the foot nut?

It should.

Screwdriver will stop the nut/shaft from spinning together.

Use a screwdriver and an open ended or box wrench and all will be good.

Yes, best to let the air out before opening up the fork+no harm done there.

Air in, start loosening, when you know it'll come off, then take the air out. Keep the nut loosely on, hit the nut with mullet several times and it'll dislodge.

I don't think Fox shaft/rod comes with a slot at the bottom. Therefore, Enduro website suggests make a groove in the bottom of the shaft/rod so you can hold the shaft/rod during the servicing next time... I got used to servicing it without it, although it maybe helpful when trying to install a new crush washer.

i've always had more success getting the foot nut off of the threaded shaft rod with 60-70 psi in the air chamber; for whatever reason, it seems to add a bit of torque resistance. same goes with reinstallation, and getting the final proper torque on the foot nut.

Thanks for the replies...

I havn't looked at it since earlier today, got fed up. The shaft doesn't have a groove....I guess worse case is that I dremel one in there to get it off. Will try filling it with air first though.

Will report back, thanks,
Mike

Worked awesome. I ended up sticking the foot nut in a vise and using a drill to get the damn shaft out, but it's out.

enduro seals and fluid shows up tomorrow and we'll go from there

Thanks for the help

...what?!?
Worded that badly, oops. I couldn't get the damn thing off with a wrench and a screwdriver, so instead of loosening the nut, I decided to spin the shaft to get it off. that involved a drill with a screw bit and a vise to hold the nut, I took my time and it went pretty well.
