I had the same situation and ordered from them. I had absolutely no problems. Kerry was excellent the whole way. Kept me up to date with what was happening, gave me a discount that I asked for even though I had lost the email with the discount code in it. He even sorted out an additional item that I wished to add at the last minute with no problems. Received the lot to Australia within a week. :)

Wow, great :)

As a sidenote, I wonder how can a business get to the point of people being AFRAID to deal with it, and yet survive.
I think that it is much the same as the info contained in the Product reviews. You have to take it with a grain of salt. There is always someone who has had a badexperiece and wants to tell the world about it. You just have to wade through the BS to get to the true story.
I corresponded with a guy in the US recently and told him that I was considering purchasing via Universal Cycles but had read bad reviews but good reviews for Adrenaline. He told me that as far as he was concerned the opposite was true.
As I said I have used Beyond Bikes with no problems and would use them again. In my case they had everything I needed in stock and were the cheapest available.

True, I figure that someone who had bad experience with a retailer would be more voicy about it that someone who had things go smoothly.
A matter of the human nature, I believe.

Still hoping for the best, though :)

When things go wrong is when a retailer earns his rep...or doesn't

I ordered some seats from Beyond. The transaction went smoothly. Still, I'll stick with the shops I've dealt with that have a rep for handling problems quickly and without hassle. For example, Pricepoint made the mistake of sticking other parts in the fork box, with the fork they shipped me. The fork got scratched. I emailed them. They picked the fork up and shipped a new one out. That is the kind of reaction I want when things go wrong.

Free tool kit hahahaha

Hope you're not expecting to get the free tool kit.

Up until my last order I have had good luck with Beyond, I've ordered some high dollar stuff in the past and they've always come through. Their shipping charges are higher than any other company I order from but they also have some stuff the others don't have so I pay it.

I placed an order Monday a couple of weeks ago for two things I needed and added enough junk (lube, patch kits etc) putting me over the $100 limit to get the 'free" tool kit. I even paid extra for their 3rd day shipping so I could have the stuff by the weekend. I know the tool kit looked cheesey but I figured if I ever have my car broken into while out riding I'd rather have "free" tools stolen instead of my good tools.

First, the big thing I ordered was out of stock even though their site still showed it being "in stock" two days after they told me it was out of stock. On top of that the junk was also out of stock. So I get on the phone with Kerry and he makes a substitution for the big item, it wasn't exactly what I wanted but it'll do. He upgrades the shipping so I'll still have my order by the weekend.

I get my box open it up and no junk, not even item # 2 that I needed. Look on the ticket and there's only the one item on my order, so I order item # 2 from Jenson and forget about the junk which I didn't need anyway.

Well this past Friday I get a package from Beyond. It has the junk & item # 2 (except it is the WRONG part number and won't work on my bike) and NO tool kit.

I dig through the box looking for my ticket and sure enough it list the tool kit. My little boy is playing with the packaging and brings me a piece of paper and ask what it says.

I couldn't help but laugh when I read it. It's a freaking voucher for either the afore mentioned tool kit, a 3 day vacation or $100 discount on an airline ticket. To get any of these items all I have to do is send some company in canada a copy of my drivers license, home address (no p.o. boxes), valid e-mail address and (this is the best part) $ 5 for handling.

Unless they are the last place on the planet has something I want, I will not be trading with beyond bikes again.

my experience

I ordered a headset from them sometime ago, and was overcharged by $10. Called about 5 times and told them they overcharged me and each time they promised to refund the $10. Obviously there would be no need to call 5 times if they EVER did what they said. I finally gave up / forgot about it. Guess thats how they do business. In fact, maybe I will call them again. Thanks for the reminder.

I've always...

...received what I ordered in a timely manner, even for special order items. Kerry special ordered a few odd parts for me, and I always got a good price.

But they're still pond scum, and I won't use them any more.

No big deal that I got overcharged on a few items. It was only a buck or two on stuff like chains, and they gave me store credit or a refund with only a minimum of hassel.

No big deal that their minimum shipping charge is $10. When I ordered from them, their prices made up for it and the sales tax I had to pay by not ordering out-of-state.

No big deal that there are so many complaints from other mtbr users about these guys, much more egregious than my simple problems.

But when I saw they resorted to doman stealing, which is only one or two notches up from identity theft on my scale, I gave up on these guys forever.

Check out www.aebike.com and then check out www.aebikes.com and tell me if you don't agree. If Beyond Bikes is capable of this type of deception of their customers, what is their limit? You'll likely get your stuff, but the fast switch name game sure lends a lot of credibility to the stories of all of their detractors.

That web address nonsense is snaky and will catch up with them. I'd never use them based on reports of their poor service here at mtbr.com

Where's my F'in tool kit

I have been had by the tool kit offer also. I ordered on the web site and the saved expiration date on my account was old. So it didn't go through, I called their number and thought it was cleared up. To make a long story short it took 6 e-mails and 5 phone calls to get my order, which was supposed to come with a free tool kit. It was shipped late, with a lesser shipping than I paid for...so it arrived a week after it should have.....with no tool kit. And the helmet I ordered dosen't fit to boot. More the fault of Giro's sizing chart from than BeyondCustomerService's, but the icing on the cake. I'm not even going to try and send it back, it was nearly impossible to get it in the first place. And I haven't been able to get my tool kit, or even hearing anything from my e-mails and phone calls. THEY SUCK.

I heard very bad things about them, but had troubles finding the parts I needed elsewhere. How worried should I be?
Any recent experience with them?

Thanks in advance! :)
I've ordered a handlebar, a Camelbak, and a Fox TALAS fork from Beyond and from the $45 transaction to the $600 one, they did me right each time. HOWEVER, a buddy of mine had them build a custom Ellsworth Truth for him and not only did it take about 2-3 weeks longer to get it than they promised, both the fork and the shock went bad on it within a month. I'm not saying that the bad fork/shock was Beyond's fault, but I don't think they were very willing to work with him on returns/repair.

This should be up front again

I'm going to drag this up to the top again, cuz I'm pissed. I happened to have a few fellow bike dorks over to the pad for a couple of drinks, and one of them noticed a new set of wheels I had in the corner. According to BeyondBikes they were supposed to be Black Deore hubs laced into Black Rhyno Lites. What I actually have are the generic Shimano Disk hubs, same shell different internals, and the rims have a machined braking surface not anodized black. The picture on the site looks like an XT hub with all black rims. The difference in hubs pisses me off, the bearings are quite a bit nicer in the actual Deore and XT disk hubs. I wouldn't care about the rims if I wasn't already pissed about the hubs. But it doesn't stop here, while checking out the site showed 8.00 shipping. I thought this was a bit low but it made me feel alright about taking my chances with beyond bikes again. But of course if it is too good to be true, it is and I was charged for 20.00 shipping. Either they are stupid and ignorant, or they are really shady. And they don't seem too stupid. And yes, all you hear about is the bad things retailers do. But I've shopped at Beyond Bikes a few times and can't say anything nice. Every time I've used them I've thought "never again." Well I think I'm tired of giving them the benefit of the doubt. I don't work at a shop anymore, and don't live in an area with many shops. So I buy just about all my bike stuff off the net, and haven't had any problems with the other big e-tailers. Jenson/Supergo/Webcyclery/Excel/Colorado Cyclist/Performance?Aebike have all been great. Ok rant over, buyer beware.
