I am now running DW front and rear.I spent several days at a ride park this past weekend for an Enduro. These tires are stellar and heald up with aplomb where others were shreading tires on a particularly nasty stage.Traction is through the roof and confidence inspiring,I braked less overall and let the tires get it done. Am running 15lb front 16lb rear. I cleaned up in my class and would have podiumed in every other class except pro. Out of two hundred participants I was the only + size. Was getting heckled at first but after my results said hecklers were looking at + size with more respect and the tires got alot of attention too. Heavy yes but performance out weighs these tires overall. I do not use 17mm cup but did install a 160mm RC2 cartridge which works mint bumping up and a tad slacker, had no significant pedal strikes then usual on our very rocky trails. Am waiting for X2 coming from Pivot any day now
that is awesome to hear. can you post a pic of the bike with the dw s and you on the podium, that would be nice to see! when i got my torrent and finally put the dw s on it i couldn't believe how fast i was railing a few local trails. i think that the maxis look good but being as light as they are they are cross country light and last thing i was to do is be trying to put a tube in my tire that has ripped 10 miles out......i would guess the 3.0 dw s are significantly taller than the reckons because they are so much more aggressive of a tire. how much do you weigh? on my hardtail i was 19 rear 17 front any lower and i was pushing the tire too much but i am 210 without gear.

I'm thinking of running them in the winter as trail tires. Dirt is loamy, but rocky, some roots and more rocks. Rides down, involve fire road climbs up. Too much tire? Also, are they tall enough to remove the headset cup.

Am not using cup no need for it,the 160mm fork raised it up enough IMO.

upgrade to x2 for 399 is correct called pivot back today and they took care of me. if anyone has a baseline tune suggestion please post it!!
Use the chart here:
http://www.ridefox.com/2016/dl/bike/605-00-141-FLOAT X2 Tuning Guide-JD.pdf

I was told to start with the the more open end of the range for the two Low speed adjustments, and the more closed end of the range on the two High speed adjustments. Use that as your baseline and make adjustments from there. I have ridden mine a few times now in those settings and man it's good.

Does anyone know if pivot is offer the kashima coated dropper as an option. All I've seen is the black coated dropper. I would like kashima for a minor up charge if available to match the fork and shock.

We only have the black coating version.

We do have the 2017 version with climb switch but it's not the full on aftermarket kit with spacers and that cool adjuster tool. I'll have to ask what volume spacers are coming in the shock (maybe matt will chime in)
those who got the x2 from pivot, is it a 2017 with the climb switch and did they provide air volume spacers? Very glad i went with the x2 cuz i know i would have bought one full price long term:)

I went with a Specialized Command post IRcc for the setback. Now medium sizing fits to perfection! Finishing touch the X2 when it arrives.

looks god, the dw s are an aggressive tire, i think because they are made by surly people discount them and think they are gonna suck! i found they mount super easy and are very consistent. plus to me the 3.0 is truly a plus tire and the 2.8 maxxis seems way to xc for what i ride. we have this area in one trail that is maybe a couple hundred feet of sharp loose shale and if you don't bomb through it you have to walk and i kept thinking if i keep the maxxis and try to get through that section i will not be riding the bike home:)

was also hoping for the bike and podium pic so we can show the anti plus people that you won a race on the tires!!

Nice. I'm glad there are a few set back dropper options. Makes it easier to adjust the STA and seated TT.

Do you have a side view of your bike I could see?

Is there a DT cage mount as well as the one in the frame?

There is a DT cage mount. One thing I found to be very important to tire durability is rim width. IMO 50mm rims are the way to go,less chance of tire rolling over rim and pinch flating, protects sidewalls and stablizes tire .

Here's the Vital MTB review with pix of the new spacers and that cool adjuster tool. It's just a compact allen but it's very nice for making adjustments. The new orange spacers are even better, no need to completely remove the can to install/remove! As for settings, I'm within 2 clicks of the recommended setup from Fox's website for my air pressure (I added 2 clicks of LSR for more traction in loose stuff and opened up the HSC by 1 click ( or 2, have to look at my notes). Their chart is amazing,y accurate across the board for this shock, just use their settings and then you can do some more customizing with volume spacers. Here's that Fox tuning guide link as well. Go to page 5 for the chart:
