Coming May 31st, according to Pivot website. Any ideas what it is?

My old Titus Switchblade was one of my favorite bikes ever.

Upgraded my worn out drivetrain. Had a 2x11 XTR/Race Face set up. The chain rings and large sprocket were toast. So I went with a new 11-42 cassette and did the Wolftooth 49 upgrade with the wolfcage. For the front I went to 1x with the Oneup Components Switch hub and 32 tooth oval chain ring. It works pretty well. I also swapped cranks to 170mm from my other bike because the pedal strikes were getting out of hand (27.5+ with 17mm cup and extended 160mm fork). Now I can pedal thru the gnar and can get up the rock ledges without slamming my pedals in the ground and making me stop. Just did 37 miles and 5000ft climbing all over SoMo last Saturday with it. :)

My Rekons finally wore out. They can't hang with the rocks on SoMo. I was plugging flats every other ride, even when up to 20 psi in the tires, which totally eliminated the benefits from plus tires in my opinion. They were hard as a rock.


So got some HRIIs in 27.5x2.8 to give the 27.5+ set up one last shot.

They are definitely slower rolling, but traction is like being on Velcro, especially in the corners! Back down to 17 psi and no flats yet!

Awesome ride out in the long awaited sun this morning. The Switchblade really does make me feel like a better rider than I probably am. It allows me to hop, skip and jump like no other. I wish the B.B. was a bit higher though, because we have a lot of rutted trails up on the moors this time of year in particular due to the rain and snow but regardless, this is an amazing bike!

Got myself a Wolftooth Components Remote this week to finally get a nice lever on there, made a huge difference! That other thing on the bar is a Bike TOGS (Thumb Over Grip System) and once you try them, it's hard to go back.

I'm sorry, I know this must have been covered somewhere on this thread but I can't find it. Does anyone know how much higher the BB would be after fitting the 17mm cup to a Switchblade with 29" wheels please?

The one and ONLY thing that frustrates me of my bike is the low BB and I wan't to see if fitting the cup will help much. My other option is to increase the travel in the fork to 160mm but I'm not sure I want to go down that route just yet...

How long have you been riding the SB?
In the beginning it takes some time to get used to the low BBs on all modern bikes but by now I would never want to go back to a higher BB.

It took me a while to get used to riding with the low bb, but I learned. Only took one set of mallet dh's! This was after the Bidwell Bump last year. You would think that I should have wrecked, but I didn't!
Ouch! I seem to have gone through more than my fair share of Raceface Crank Boots but I guess I'm coming off lightly?! [emoji38]

last night was the first good chance for me to take the switchblade on a real mountain bike ride this spring, between weather and overtime. this spring has sucked
really happy with the 29" wheel set, onyx hubs and changed to a 30t oval, got rid of my dropper post, bash guard and put my carbon bars back on, new carbon seat post
bike is a lot lighter. and handles better than ever

those 29's were rolling over root balls that always have given me a problem. in the past
just one of the best overall rides I have had with the bike, great to be off the road and trainer. lets hope the great weather holds up

I've been tinkering with my SB and I've brought it pretty much where I like it.

X2 was massive upgrade over DPS, went with Magura MT7 brakes over XTR Trail and they're far stronger.



I also changed Magura 2 finger levers for new MT 1-finger that are much nicer to use and flex less. It's odd and I'd never have imagined it but the brakes feel firmer with new levers.

Since Magura comes with neon green decals I decided to paint the rings red and it turned out pretty nice I must say, definitely much better for the colorway than neon green.



I'm currently running Formula 2 piece centerlock rotors with Magura Ventidisc rotors on side. I had some noise with Magura and I'm still trying to find out what it was. It could've been pads but I'm unsure yet.

Other than that, it's been great: XX1 Eagle works great, Transfer dropper hasn't given me any issues and wheels are good and true after around 2500km. Bike is creak free and runs smooth and quiet.

The only thing I'm thinking of changing now is going with Kabolt/Tooled axles on both ends as I carry mini tool anyway and I'd drop a bit of weight and maybe change tires to something skinnier (from 2.6 Nobby Nics) such as new Hans Damps 2.35 in the front and Rock Razor 2.35 in the rear. That would drop some weight and give more zip to the bike.

I'm very happy with the SB, it's very versatile and fun to ride.

Has anyone found a travel case that works for the SB? I was just travelling this past week, and I rented a bike for riding some trails. The whole time I was wondering how much more enjoyable this trail would be with the SB.

So I want to know what you have used for shipping/flying with the SB?
What is unique about packing the Switchblade? While the wheelbase is longer than earlier Pivots, its certainly not the longest out there. Unless you have a large case and a small bike, you'll be removing the fork, so wheelbase matters less. As for the 157mm spacing, in the case of the few travel bags that use axle mounts, just use a 1cm spacer. Shouldn't be hard to make out of PVC tube.

FWIW, my strategy for domestic MTB travel is to ship via BikeFlights rather than fly with it. Its almost always cheaper (rare airlines like Alaskan being an exception at $25) and you avoid the considerable hassle of dragging it around the airport.

So, I demoed a large set up similar to my medium. Long story short, less poppy, but overall more capable. Not only descends better, but now I’m over the front wheel on steep out of saddle climbs instead of in front of it. Switch backs are a little harder. I’m sad my tight woods bike will be supplanted by a more generic feeling bike, but in the West it feels like the right to do. I can see why my buddy hasn’t been blown away by the mid travel bikes he’s demoed. Followings, they are not.

I added a spacer to the DPS which allowed lower pressure to improve small bump compliance without bottoming out. The X2 is plush, soaks up big hits and doesn’t heat up like the DPS on long downs. The DPX2 is what I settled on. I use my bike mostly on chunky trails and occasional long downs. The X2 is not quite as efficient as the DPX2. The X2 is definitely better than the DPS IMO.

Cant speak for doctor don but I’ve had both and the x2 is more active than the DPX2. So when climbing or pumping terrain, I’ve found the DPX2 to carry speed with slightly less effort. When bombing downhill, the X2 feels more plush. The DPX2 was a good compromise between the stock DPS and the X2 for me.

Don, what size frame do you have? Id like to have the option for a water bottle. Hoping it could fit on my size Large with an X2.

Regarding the goal, that's a good question, not sure what would be ideal for me. Probably the heavy trail catgegory which I assume would mean DPX2.

The bike in this article is a large and the tester gives a good perspective on the X2. The reviewer has more skillz than me. I had a medium and a bottle wouldn't fit with the X2. I'm hoping to squeeze a large bottle into my new large front triangle with the DPX2.

I am in love with my switchblade


I finally upgraded from my 2007 Ibis mojo and it is such a difference.
I am about 10 rides in on the new bike and it has the familiar DW link action that I was used to but the thing is on steroids compared to the mojo. With just a little steady pressure on the climbs it will maintain a much higher speed than I have ever achieved before. (yes this is my first 29er) and OMG once I point down it's a rocket ship. I never thought I would ever rail berms like this. popping from one corner to the next and the acceleration coming out of the turns... then the way it smooths out the rough stuff, its is so much fun. Anyway, point of the post is to thank the passionate supporters on this forum, you played a large part in helping me get over my wallet and just go buy the damn thing. Thank you. Well, enough typing, time to go for a ride!
