Coming May 31st, according to Pivot website. Any ideas what it is?

My old Titus Switchblade was one of my favorite bikes ever.

Actually I have a Mach 6 Medium, and just before I ride the Small.
I like the Wheelbase and reach of the M and the seat tube and stand over of the S...
When I look geometry, I think the SB in small will be the perfect mix of what I like :D
Even if it would be my first 29" ;)

A little piece of my mountains, a friend take a video of our last ride saturday :

I'm the guy forward with kenny shirt green/white and Mach 6 but it's difficult to see him ;)

It really is quite baffling to me how some reviewers can have such a dramatically different experience then I've had with the same machines. :skep:

"it (the SB) didn't feel super plush on rougher descents and didn't seem super smooth on smaller trail irregularities, an area where the Ibis Mojo 3+ really shined."

Right now a Mojo 3 sits in my garage and my wife has adopted it as her rig. I have about 300 miles on the M3 and my wife about 7 rides. We both rode the exact same route back to back on the M3 and SB in 27+ mode on the same day. To us the SB felt considerably more plush. Contrary to Krob's experience I found the SB DID seem to have the deep plush suspension feel that Krob seemed to be looking for. This is the entire reason I've decided on the SB for riding and racing - I feel like I can outrun the M3, but the SB just seems to be begging for more.

I'm still a little confused how Krob and I could have found the same bikes to feel almost the opposite. This could have been setup, or it could have been an overused and undermaintained demo bike (I've had some pretty crappy impressions of bikes from demo bikes including a bike with a blown fork damper).

I now have 4 rides on my Switchblade 27.5+. Love it! Best bike I've ever ridden. So much fun. Rode the bike home from work today, I'm out of shape, slow, and out of shape. Every ride so far I'm faster up and down. I feel so comfortable on the bike, and capable. Just need my lungs to catch up!

Built it up with the Float X2. Luckily with the latest version.

Don't know why this is shocking. It's an opinion. Kent is a good rider and a good bike reviewer. But like every other human, he comes pre-programmed with his own tastes in what he likes in a bike. Just like you and me.

If you love the SB, then keep on loving it.

Having owned one for a bit, I'd agree overall with his assessments. I strongly preferred it with 29 over the B+ setup. I did not have the same issue with square edge hits that he articulated; in fact, I thought the bike was really nice in that regard. However, I did find it to pedal a bit "heavy". And I mostly agree with his assessment of overall plushness. I found the bike to be really nice and plush on single big hits. On successive hits at higher speeds, the shock got pretty overwhelmed.

Had I kept the bike, a shock upgrade would have been first on the list.

I'm definitely not dissing his opinion. I know we all have different tastes in what we like or want in both trails and bikes and that leads to very different desires and opinions. What's surprising is that we had the opposite interpretation of the same two machines. There's not much more to this than, "Huh, that's weird. I wonder why that happened?"

It's a great bike for sure, but there were things I didn't love. Mostly that it felt heavier than it really was. The SB never really came alive for me unless the trail began to get steeper and it seems to need more encouragement to pop off of roots and rocks to get airborne (compared to other plus bikes). Given some of the different impressions I'm hoping some of that can be adjusted by fiddling with the shock a bit.

I do wonder in some reviews of this and other plus bikes how much time the rider/reviewer has on the + tires. I've gone back and forth but spent most of the past year on the plus. I can't say that one is truly better overall (better at certain things for sure) but I can say it's a different overall riding experience between plus and non-plus. I have traction for days on the plus tires cornering, but it's only on "normal" tires that I can actually feel the corner knobbs digging in. I can see how someone who like to feel every bump in the trail would dislike the plus experience.

Just observations not really seeking answers to anything...

i think a lot of that review has to do with the shock. i have ridden x2 from day one and yesterday went out on my topaz. rode about 12 miles but nothing too fast or big and it is so wet and leave covered i couldn't really push it but i do think the x2 may be lusher with better support and that makes a huge difference. i am gonna ride again today on a faster and longer trail and will have a better comparison but i think the sb is truly a great all around bike. 275+ definitely makes it feel a little numb especially with the 3.0 dw tires but that isn't the bike it is the product of the high volume tire and once we learn to use the tires it really shreds. i am surprised people keep saying the larger tires cant corner well as i find that to be wrong but again those that say it are running maxxis i think and that is the issue. i ride with enough people to know i am not the fastest but that i also ride at a good pace and am pretty aggressive with the lines i take and this bike handles it all and makes me feel very in control.

i bought a dvo to use until the x2 issue is sorted.....used dvo but looks pretty good, rode about 25 miles the last 2 days. first days less elevation but lots of tech climbs with roots and rocks covered in leaves, shock felt OK i though maybe there was less traction but since i wasn't wide open it was hard to tell. yesterday rode my go to trail with a lot of fast downhill on all types of terrain from loose dirt to shale to some small to mid sized drop to roots, pnw riding. i hate to not like this shock as the dvo people are awesome but it just doesn't offer what the x2 does. i hit this small drop that i hit on every ride and crashed pretty hard-twice. it is about 3-4 feet into some roots, rocks and really uneven terrain. but i just got bucked off the bike and felt out of control, i have been riding long enough to know if i make an error but where the x2 absorbs and stays in control the dvo just felt weird. i went back up and ht the same line again after slowing the rebound a click to see if that was the cause and the same thing. all the way down the mountain i just felt like the bike didnt have the same control or traction as the x2 and i had a few more pedals strikes. this is with the sag set right at 30 and 4 of their volume spacers in the shock so if anything it should have more support yet it made the bike just not feel right. to me riding the dvo is more dangerous than the x2 and i really had to concentrate on keeping the rear tire on the ground verse letting it rip with the x2. it has been raining a ton but yesterday it cleared up and was warm so conditions were perfect outside of fix simply making a truly superior product i don't know what else could have been the cause....maybe this is why pivot only recommends fox???

Agreed, I actually still have stock Evol but chose to continue running X2, but some may not feel as so and if have no backup they are left stranded, Fox could have just replaced all suspected shocks. So far no one I know has had any issues and my mechanic friend even raced two DH series on his Mach 6 with X2 and did very well, other then keeping it serviced, impressive in itself how well the Mach 6 sucked up all the abuse with aplomb.

For giggles has anyone tried running a 29er in the rear and the 27.5+ in the front with the spacer installed. I'm pretty intreagued by this setup as it would raise BB height, and steepen the head angle slightly for climbing while keeping that great fat front tire. Just a thought

Crank Info Needed Please

Hi All,

I have a conundrum. I am buying a SB frame and of course the Distributor is telling me that they are not meant to be sold as a frame and it is virtually impossible to find the correct parts for it. I already have great high end parts and don't want to spend the cash(which I don't have) on a complete bike. I've sourced everything except that I've gotten conflicting info from multiple sources on the crank/spindle sizing.

Does anyone have any personal experience that they can lend so that I get the correct Crank with the correct spindle length?

Thanks All.

Hi, I Will do the same thing. You can use normal crank (PF 92), for the spindle, If you want less of 30 tooth all Will work's but you have to check the chainline. If you want more tooth, you Will probably purchase Ă  spindle with 0 offset.
I Will order Ă  28 tooth, and with the Hubs of my wheels (Acros), a boost (3mm offset ) would work well and give a good chainline ; )

One question, in the blue, the other color is red or pink ? ?? Thank's

Your distributor is a little misguided...lots of options from race face you can check out their spec sheet online for chainline and q factor.

Mine came with the stock race face wide spindle Affect SL and the chain ring was not flipped. It was inset 3mm. It fit a 32 round no problem. If you flipped it,it would fit a 34 easily, maybe bigger. Even a zero offset ring would fit a 34 or 32 oval.

I put a shimano xt 8000 boost crank on it and max size is a 32 round. Oval 32 will not work asit will hit chainstay. XTR cranks would not work at all with a 168 Q factor.

You will need the wider spindle for the older next sl crank. Stock spindle will not work unless you get the new wider one.

Thanks 's for all. I made Ă  mistake in my post...with my bad english...spindle and chainring are different things...sorry.
To be clear, trying to be clear...lol, I have order a SB frame kit. He Will come with fork and crank (aeffect sl), I was thinking to switch the crank with the next sl who are on my Mach6.
But if it is not possible, I will keep the aeffect , it would be more easy and it is not a big problem ; )

creaks....i hate creaking bikes and know the weather in the pnw is rough but yesterday i greased the cranks, headset/fork and seat post and still getting creaks, love the bike but i definitely think with all the pivots and crevases this thing is going to need kinda frequent tear downs. anyhow agree?

My Mach 6 has seen a lot of PNWet slop and has been silent except for three issues:

1. back end of shock at clevis joint - bolt needed to be tightened to a high torque
2. interface between XX1 derailleur and hanger - little bit of grease cured an annoying creak
3. WTB saddle can get creaky where rails go into plastic - drop of oil cures that

The SB is the same general design so I don't think that creaks are something you just need to deal with. I would hunt it down. It could be something real easy to cure.

My M6 is has seen ~ 20 months of riding and I've never torn down the suspension. I'm going to refresh the bearings this winter just because no obvious problems. I wouldn't expect any more maintenance from a SB. Pivot has done a solid job on their linkage design. I know a few other Pivot owners on the island and when I have ridden with them their bikes were silent.

I do keep my bike away from the bike wash and high pressure hoses. When needed I wash my bike by hand.

If my Pivot was creaky or needed a lot of maintenance I'd have sold it and bought something else.

Riding Vids

Recently shot a couple follow cam videos with Nate Hills, the second one was just released. Headed out again today for two more episodes. Check them out!

Ribbon Trail

Free Lunch

Still loving the Switchblade. Raced the Moab Ho Down enduro last weekend and managed a 7th place finish. Pretty happy with that as everyone ahead of me was a legit pro - including Nate (1st) and Mitch Ropelato (4th). I took about 20 seconds off my total time over last year (6th last year).

My wife finished second in a pretty close battle with Yeti pro Sarah Rawley.

Just watched the Ribbon video. Nice work. I see so many ride videos that I shut off after 10 seconds. I watched yours right to the end.

Congrats on the race results as well.
