I have been looking into swapping over to maxxis aggresor feont and rear. Seems like they would give me what i'm looking for. Good rolling resistance but still able to push it in the turns. Or possibly wtb trail boss for the same reason but i have always run maxxis. Anyone have any input on either of these tires? Would be mounting to an i30 rim so 2.4 -2.5
I had aggressors front and rear. The front didn't bite well enough for me. I prefer the E13 Plus for speed, DHF 2.5 DC for dry west, DHR2 2.4 WT 3C for all season east coast.

I've decided to get a SB, but I'm trying to narrow down the build and the sizing.

I'm tying to decide between the X01 and the XT/XTR builds. I'm fine with X01 (it's closer to my original budget for this purchase) but I'm wondering if it's worth the extra $650 to get the Factory fork and shock rather than the Performance? I know this has been beaten to death on some other threads and forums, but curious if anyone has experience with both.

I would prefer to get GX Eagle on this bike, so if I do go with the XT/XTR build, I'm hoping my LBS or Pivot will swap out the drivetrain for the Eagle as I'd like to have a 12 speed.

Finally, anyone "size up" for this bike due to its geo and feel?

The SB has a fairly long reach. A large SB is much larger than the old XL Mach 6. I went with XL bc I'm 6'3" and like a roomy feel, but it's definitely roomy in each size compared to many bikes. The XL is in between an XL and XXL Santa Cruz TB and HT if that helps at all.

Demoed one today and may be a 29er convert. I also rode the Mach 5.5 but preferred the SB oddly as I never liked any 29ers I rode before. The SB just felt so stiff, planted and fast while handling gnar and climbing great!

I'd say go for the better fork and shock. :)

I have previously owned a Small Mach 6 with longer stem and am currently on a Medium Switchblade 29er with a short stem. The SB 29er rips great with this set-up.

Not much downside on the seat clamp height, as Pivot has reduced the seat tube lengths for their newer bikes.

SRAM over Shimano for gearing simply because of the range and weight.
Both shift great but I like SRAM clutch better.

Fox Performance Elite or Factory is the same except for Kashima, but Performance non Elite is lower end.

GX Eagle is great, I'm riding XX1 Eagle because I got great deal but running GX shifter while I'm waiting for XX1 to arrive and it's very smooth, no different than XTR I replaced it with.

Looks good. Did the upgrades drop some weight as well?
I don't know if I dropped weight but right now I believe is close to 13kg or bit under with pedals, pretty much the same as my 429T was.
36 is bit heavier than 34 but next cranks are lighter than aeffect for the same amount and wheels are around 100gr lighter.

I'm not too bothered with weight but one could drop another 500 grams with lighter tires (no point for such a bike), bolt on axles and lighter grips.

I just bought a small SB and can't seem to get a bottle and cage to fit. I've tried two regular cages and two different side entry cages with no luck. I already flipped the shock over but the problem is that even if I get the cage to fit the bottle hits the seat tube without being fully seated in the cage. What are you guys with small frames doing for water bottles?

Hey all, I finally pulled the trigger on the X01 build with 29er wheels. I've ridden it twice and boy is it harsh. I don't remember the harshness being an issue during my demo. I've spent the last two days re-riding the same section of trail to try and tune the suspension. I've got the Fox factory fork and shock btw. I set everything up per Fox's recommendation. Today on my ride I slowed down the rebound on the fork by 3 clicks and the shock by 2 which seemed to help. LSC is wide open, not sure if that would help.

Anyone else have the same issue? I haven't taken this bike on any truly gnarly trails yet.

Btw, I'm 175 lbs on a size large, I'm not a heavy rider (if that makes any difference). I realize stiffness is a part of the bikes DNA, maybe I'm a little too old for something that has such a stout ride! :)

Check the tire pressure and check the fork. It might lack oil in the lowers and turn it upside down so the oil seeps into the foam rings.

Bushings, seals etc need some break in period as well.

I'd say 36 is perhaps not as sensitive as 34 I had before on the Trail in terms of comfort, but in terms of tracking and taking on high speed and big hits, it's much better and more stable. Fox 36 only comes to it's own when trail starts to go rough and the faster you go the better it feels.

You might want to take out volume reducers and keep slightly higher pressure. I found this to be great on my old 34.
