^^^^ NICE! Love the red saddle and your eschewing of the obligatory riser bar. I think they look dumb even though mine has one. But you need a dropper post to get the full enjoyment out of that bike! Any reason you don't have one, especially as you said you have it dialed in now? Just curious, maybe you just don't like 'em...
Thanks! I left the dropper post at the shop. Several reasons: My terrain is quite flat, no big mountains, riding style I like is long distance trails and bike camping adventures, old habits as I have been riding 25 years with rigid seat post already, carbon post is a lot lighter and reliable and last my left hand thumb is a bit invalid which makes pressing the dropper post lever unpractical.

So, my goal was to make the bike as light and reliable as possible. It has to be able to ride in every possible condition or trail surface with relatively ease and comfort, even with 10-14 kg of gear and food in a ruck sack. So far I feel the the goal has been achieved though I haven't done any overnighters with my Pivot yet because it has been winter and fatbike season here.

I got hurt and i have a 27.5+ SB for sale if anyone is interested. close to new and i am selling pretty cheap also has few upgrades, PM me if interested and I only want to sell local to the PNW.

Anyone else experience some clinging/grinding under hard pedaling? Almost sounds like the spokes are rubbing or sand in the cassette. Thought maybe the one-up ring was wearing and moving a bit but it does it in all gears under high load. Washed it well and tore down the hub to check the pawls and everything looked good. Was gone for the first part of my next ride but starting to come back again. Trails here are rough on wheels so perhaps the bladed spoke tensions are off and rubbing when hammering up hill? XTR 11x build with Reynolds Carbon. Any thoughts?

Change suspension settings for 29er?

Swapped out the 27.5+ wheelset (XM551, Dirt Wizard front/rear) for a 29 wheelset (Derby rims, High Roller front, DHR rear)

Really transforms the bike handling.

Recommendations on how to tweak the suspension to accommodate the new wheelset? Front feels kind of poppy. Maybe slow the rebound?

Also interested in front/rear tire choice. High roller washed out a few times but maybe I have just acquired bad habits from the Dirt Wizards.

Another DHRII or a DHF would be a better match for the front. You might even consider swapping the current set you have (front to rear).

Beautiful photo and beautiful bike. I am in the 11th hour of pulling the trigger on a Switchblade and am so very torn on wheels. I keep wanting 275+, but keep thinking I NEED 29. How would you describe your experience with the two wheel sizes?

My favorite front tire is the E*Thirteen Race Level Triple Compound in 29" x 2.35" (TRS TR1TRA-101). It's super gripy and I prefer it over the Maxxis Minion. I have one on my Switchblade and one on my Intense Tracer in 27.5". Love it - best tire. I ride in Phoenix and Sedona, Arizona with it.
I'm still searching for my favorite rear tire. The E*Thirteen Plus Level Dual Compound tire is awesome for chunky and muddy stuff, but I didn't want the slower rolling tire on the rear of my Switchblade; instead, I have a Maxxis Aggressor in the Double Down casing. It's good, but looses traction at times in loose climbs. It's great for the XC type riding.

I have both wheelset for my sb and I switch between the two pending what I ride. The 27.5+ is certainly way slower for me. If I'm doing more xc or mild terrain with a lot of climbing or with rocky technical climbs I will run the 29er. If the trail is more downhill or shuttle type rides I will run the plus wheels. The plus wheels are hard to do technical rocky climbs with because the bottom bracket is lowered so much and it causes a lot of pedal strikes. I should also mention I run my fork at 150mm with the x2 rear shock and I keep the 17mm cup in full time.

If I could only have 1 set of wheels for this bike I would choose 29er for my full time set. I ride in rugged rocky terrain In Arizona desert where our landscape is not forgiving loaded with cactus, sharp rocks and sharp objects everywhere and all they want to do is slice 27.5+ tire sidewalls. Granted the traction is nice but I feel there are more pros to 29 than 27.5+ for here in Arizona.

Now the pivot les I feel different about. I prefer b+ wheelset for that bike vs 29er unless I am going to be in a race or something. I have 2 wheel sets for that bike as well.

Valid point on the lower BB in plus mode. On the SB the X2 rides lower in the stroke than the DPS does when in middle or lock-out mode. I went back to the DPS to help with BB height even though it's less plush on the DH. Pedal strikes suck!!

Also, the Rekon's are about 1/4" shorter than the DHF or High Roller II plus tires...
Ya once the rekon are done with I'm moving to a different plus tire. I was able to get a 2 for 1 on these tires so it was a lesser expensive route to get me rolling on plus size tires. I may try the schwable route next or some of the maxxis tires in 2.6. Right now all my plus tires are 2.8

matrix311, thanks for your response. I live in Crested Butte, where terrain can be rocky and I very much enjoy those trails, but the perdomant trail feature is tight, and I mean tight, singletrack. I currently ride a Bronson with 2.5 tires and love the fat tire there, but even though .3in doesnt sound like a lot on paper, I am guessing the 275+ format is going to feel a lot different. The tight singletrack makes me think plus isnt where I want to be and I wish I could demo up here, but trails are still snowed in. In the end, I am sure one can grow to love either option in whatever wheelsize they have.

Super great insight. I keep thinking I should have an X2, but you just sold me on the factory DPS. Cheers.

I've had the Schwalbe 2.8 Rocket Ron and Nobby Nics and they were good tires, but weak on sidewalls. The Maxxis is a much better choice in my opinion. I've done the Rekon, DHF, and High Roller II's in 2.8 with the DHF my favorite on the front for sure. I also have the new 2.6 Rekon and the Forekaster with the DHF otw. The forekaster is the same overall height as the 2.8 DHF and is only slightly narrower, but the sidewall seems a little tougher just by feel. No ride on it yet as I'm using in on my new FB build. The 2.6 Rekon is 1/4" shorter and I'm not sure that the rolling resistance is going to be better than the Forekaster... I put both on 28mm and 40mm internal rim widths and for sure the 40 will be better for air volume. I'm planning on running 2.6 Forekaster rear 28mm and 2.8 DHF front on 40mm. Fork will be at 160 and I am installing a -1 degree angleset to get to 66.5 ish. I'm hoping this will be my new all around bike, but we shall see. This will give me a little better bb height than my SB and more rear travel which is my only gripe about the SB!

Yes, put your DPS in lock out and sit on the bike. Move to the middle then full open and you'll really feel the drop with each click. The X2 rides in the lowest DPS position all the time. The climb switch only helps with pedal bob.
