flicking through my old BikePro bible the other night, the Paragon name comes up time to time. Perhaps most famous for those massive Ti chainrings on the Yeti team bikes. what else was/ is(?) paragon responsible for? (In an industry of made by some1 else..)

Hehe. It's funny, Paragon went the other way, & got more reputable instead of less, becoming the proverbial someone else. Most companies start out making their own parts, then after a while, farm all the stuff out to the lowest bidder & just ride out the brand. Paragon started making their own product line, then straight up dropped it to focus on making all the ti stuff no one else could afford to do (dropouts, BB shells & whatnot). Now they enjoy a fine place behind the scenes making fine ti bits & pieces for everyone under the sun. Pretty neat.

The site is here. https://www.paragonmachineworks.com/ Mark is not too much into supplying the eye candy but everything on there is something that is incredibly well thought out and manufactured to a t. His new sliding rear drops will for sure make it onto my next Ti frame.

Here are a few of his trinkets that I have here. The aforementioned stainless steel air orifice (although they sell well as bubble pipes at Interbike) and a limited edition Hale-Bopp commerative opener in engraved annodized alloy.

Although he has been known to hang out with some real derelicts, he is a straight shooter himself. See if you can get him talking about hobo-ing sometime. Also he is a high mucky muck in the SOPWAMTOS.

The bike on the website is one of 5 that they made around 6 years ago. I got the chance to tool the strip on one and it was as smooth as silk and the styliest cruiser I had ever seen to boot.

That bike was truly amazing!

The one that was shown at Interbike had a bit more "bodywork", lights and pinstriping IIRC. Wish I could find more pics.

My (ex)wife still uses the Hale-Bopp on her key ring. Show the flip-side BW.

 

Mark is rad. I buy all my bits from him. He's also a Mutinyman owner, which makes me extremely proud.

he makes some sweet dropouts and other steel bits for framebuilders, as well as a fair amount of Ti tomfoolery as mentioned above. also some really cool machined aluminum vise block sets for holding various diameter tubing in the framebuilding process. there ain't nothin' at Paragon that a well-rounded framebuilder wouldn't like. all good stuff.

I also have the rear rim and tire for that project bike, although it is not 700c. It only has about 1100 miles on it and those were all on snow. Got if from a different MC.
