Launched in 2019. New Rail 29 this year - any insights/thoughts if a new and tweaked rascal could be in the works for next year?
I dont see any discounts for Rascals on the website.Rascals n discount frames and full builds at 20% off. Either clearing out inventory or the v2 coming
I just did the mullet thing with my Lithium. Thinking about the Rail since I'd gain back the 11mm of bottom bracket hight I lost everything else is pretty close. And I like the bike this way.I was at my LBS - they have them all marked down and said it was a Revel initiated discount for all Rascals. They said the same - not on website yet. They are speculating as I was - 3 yr run, yada yada... but nothing they know of just speculation. Apparently a different brand rep was in recently and not shy to tell them the whole range is updating from top to bottom... and soon... You Estimate That Its coming...I sat on a Rascal and fit was close to my Ripmo - understanding what I do about the CBF I could see going for current or new... if inventory doesn't move and discounts go deeper call he highly intrigued to pull a season or 2 on. We also spitballed a mullet 27.5 Rail...
If you put a 170mm 29er fork on it you'll gain 11-12mm BB height but it'll slack the seat tube. .9° I'm dodging a lot on the mullet Lithium right now lol.Hey Cerb - I read thru your thread on the mullet Lithium. So than I compared geo and bb heights listed below. Threw my Ripmo on as even w 165 cranks at 30% sag - I have to work to dodge the pedal strikes ... Looks the the Rail 27.5 is the lowest of all em and you wouldn't gain that back so to speak... I was loving the Rail 27.5 idea til I got to BB height
Rail 27.5 - 337 bb
Rail 29 - 348
Lithium - 350
Ripmo - 341
Normally when trying to mullet a bike, it's best to start with a 27.5 bike that has about 20mm travel distance front to back. Then you use a 20mm shorter 29er fork.aha - I figured you were likely much smarter than me on this stuff!! Thanks - that really becomes intriguing altho I dont know that I need 165/170 for like 90% of my riding...
Updated pivots and UDH would be great! I do hope they keep the rear triangle the same and not change the non-drive side chain stay like they did the rail 29. Ever since the early days of the Trek EX series it always bothered me to see those asymmetrical chain stays! It'll be interesting to see what they do, they didn't leave a huge gap geometry wise between the rascal and rail 29.
I basically want a rascal with the same geo as the rail 29, but I can't see them doing that, obviously.
Seems like if they revamp the bike it'll likely have very similar numbers, maybe pivot hardware updates, sram udh, couple mm here and there.
Definitely frame storage would be nice! A 27.5 Rascal would be close to the rail yet, I still want it and have considered moving to the Rail 27. While I love N+1 my wallet doesn't and your point stands.Would really like to see downtube storage and UDH. Steeper STA maybe but the existing geometry is good enough.
Revel seems to have a lot of overlap across its models which has always struck me as weird. E.g., I could have a bike garage with a Spec Epic, Stumpy and Enduro. That wouldn't make sense with Ranger, Rascal, and Rail.
I just had the conversation exclaiming Transition released a Rascal! It does look very nice... It will likely be my next n+1 if the new Rascal has asymmetrical chain stays like the Rail 29. I had a Trek EX8 with asymmetrical stays and it bothered me more than it should have..I hope we hear something soon. Still love my OG rascal but that new Smuggler is…attractive
