1.) Originally from the south but have been nomadic for a long time.
2.) Don't know how to answer "what kind of rider" since I am not up to speed on the lingo. I like to get on trails my old 26"er and my aging body can handle.
3.) One GT XCR-3000 from way back in '99.
4.) Grew up in the mountains of NC riding all the way back to the mid-90s.
5.) Don't spend much time on the forums.

I come here when I am looking for information or assistance fixing my old GT. Most shops are too young to have ever worked on a bile like mine and even if they could, they don't want the hassle. So I am often left to solve on my own, so here I am.

1.) Where you are from? Eastern USA
2.) What kind of rider do you consider yourself? Experienced, used to do some pretty crazy and stupid riding, but coming back after a 10 year break and just doing it for more relaxing but still challenging fun!
3.) How many bikes you own? 2, 1 gravel and 1 mtb
4.) How long have you been riding? 30+ years
5.) What forums do you frequent most? (either here or on other sites) MTBR

How’s it going all!
1.) I’m currently local to New England
2.) I’d consider myself a park rider, due to fitness levels and aspiring trail shredder
3.) I’m recently down to 2 bikes, a recent Norco optic, and an old Gary Fischer hardtail converted into a rigid monster gravel drop bar thing.
4.) I’ve been riding seriously ish for about 4 years
5.) I’ve spent some time and pinkbike if that counts, and have been lurking here for a bit. Other than that not tons of forum time.
Thanks!

Hey all you fellow mountain and bike lovers.
I hail from the once sleepy but now buzzing metropolis of Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I will come clean as I am mostly a roadie who dabbles in trail mountain biking when the chance presents itself. However when I’ve been lucky enough to live in a bonafide mountain town, the balance shifts to 50/50. I’ve been riding long enough to have owned a couple of solid fork stumpjumpers purchased new, so I’ve seen some changes over the decades.…I currently own 5 bikes which when added to all the wife and kids bikes, really plugs up the garage. I’m not a huge subscriber to any particular forum though I like all things that fly…be it on wheels, wings or rotorblades. I’m mostly here just to sift through the quagmire of component compatibility and to keep my aging 2007 Stumpjumper FSR at the same level as/or better than new. It is my belief that a lot of the equipment we ride should be military grade not consumer grade, not to be confused with heavy and outdated but more associated with smart, simple and skookum with lots of parts commonality. Ahhh one can dream……

Hello thar!

Returning guy here. I used to post as Ziptiez, and still live down the street from Dalerider's old house. I haven't been here much in the last 25+ years, or even at all since the forum change. Are there archives?

I'm from Eastern Iowa, specifically Parkview Iowa. Right next to Scott County Park.

I'm most comfortable on single track, but enjoy all the fruits of the bike. 3 Cannondale's, 2 Giants.
I've been riding and racing since last century but life always seemed to interfere and it's time to jump back in!

I’m from Calgary, Canada.
2.) What kind of rider do you consider yourself?
I started out as a roadie but got into MTB during Covid. Now I’m hooked on the thrill of going fast. I mostly ride XC and split my time between road and MTB, usually racking up 100–200 km a week.
3.) How many bikes you own?
I’ve got two: a Canyon Endurace CF and a Norco Fluid frame built up with XT components.
4.) How long have you been riding?
Over 15 years.
5.) What forums do you frequent most?
I’m usually on Reddit, Pinkbike, and a few FB groups.
I’m joining this group to learn more and share what I can about MTB. Looking forward to connecting with everyone!

Hi all! New to the forum, Midlands UK based. Been out of the hobby a few years with young kids, but used to ride a decent amount and been to a few trail centres, Afan, Whinlatter.
have 3 bikes now… my now 25 year old beater ( rebranded Claude butler, only frame and seat are original), giant trance x4 (2010). Decided that was a bit overkill for mountains of rural northants, so ‘accidentally’ purchased a 2nd hand Voodoo Bizango ‘22 that seemed a bargain
Kids also have Voodoos (bakka / Nzumbi) which is how I heard of them! Hope to take them to some trails in time!

Hi there,

1) Where you are from?
I’m originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but I live in British Columbia, Canada.

2) What kind of rider do you consider yourself?
I’m an experienced triathlete, and a few months ago I tried mountain biking for the first time. Since then, it has turned into an addiction. I bought a hardtail and even raced in a cross-triathlon that uses MTB. Now I’m eager to learn more from the more experienced riders.

3) How many bikes you own?
I currently own three bikes, but only one of them is a mountain bike, a hardtail.

4) How long have you been riding?
I’ve been riding since my childhood, but I only started mountain biking a few months ago.

5) What forums do you frequent most?
I usually spend most of my time on Reddit.

Hey, I'm Jamie, I live in Pasadena, CA. I guess I'm mostly riding all mtn/singletrack trails, I also have an old Trek converted into a bike packing do-aller. I have four bikes built up, and several frames ready to tinker with. Main rides: 2006 Kona Explosif, 2 1996 Trek 970s (one in a larger size for more laid back riding), 1992 Schwinn Paramount Series 90 PDG. Also have a 1986 Specialized Stumpjumper on loan to a friend. I've been riding for about 20 years, but got into mountain biking 6-7 years ago and started with that '86 Stumpy. Other forums I frequent are retrobike and r/xbiking.
I get pretty technical on these 26ers and have not even tried larger wheel sizes yet. One day I will but I do feel like I'm working my way up the historical mtb ladder. I recently got that Explosif which has disc brakes. I cut my teeth on the trails in Vegas with my 970, and now mostly ride the San Gabrielino trail system up in Altadena. Having 1x10, dropper post, and discs have been game changing, but I know I'm still a bit stuck in the past technologically. I just like these old bikes too much.

Help everyone.found this super helpful site.
I’m from the uk(north)not far from Lake District.
I haven’t been riding for 3 decades.😳my son now has an interest, so he has helped me to wipe away the cobwebs.
I own 2 hard tails.Diamondback Axis, Orange O2.
Son has Specialized Marathon.
I’ve just bought Specialized S Works full suspension 2007. All retro.
Been riding really since I was 13 when I saved up my pocket money and bought a Raleigh Record Sprint.
Just trying to get back into it to get back to fitness, or as good as I can get.(60 next year)
I’m not on any other forums as not that good with technology really, so trying hard to join this community.
Look forward to joining in.
Andrew.

1.) Delaware
2.) Re-newb, exercise, singlespeed or gears, building up stamina to get back on trails.
3.) How many bikes you own? 2: Trek Verve (modern geared hybrid/city) and Redline Monocog (26" not-so-modern rigid SSMTB)
4.) How long have you been riding? Off and on since I was 10, so... a long time.
5.) What forums do you frequent most? Badger & Blade, Sax on the Web, Reddit. Used to frequent usenet groups, but... that's what Reddit is for now.

Edit: hardtail to rigid

1.) Billings, Montana — plenty of trails and prairie wind out here
2.) More of a weekend warrior than anything, mostly trail and enduro vibes
3.) Down to one main bike now, but always scrolling classifieds for the next one
4.) Riding steady for about 4–5 years, but bikes have been in my life forever
5.) Lurk a lot on Pinkbike buy/sell and tech forums, sometimes MTBR when I’m hunting info

1.) Where you are from?
Originated in Central Nj, home of great trails and good pizza and killer diners. Lived right next to the Horse Park of NJ / Assunpink state park.

2.) What kind of rider do you consider yourself?
Intermediate skill level, I always considered my self All Mountain or Trail although by todays standards, it would seem I am more of a Cross Country type biker. Back in the day, XC bikes were ultra light weight, ridden with clips, sometimes like stiff frame or short travel hardtails that could climb anything.
I would ride any trail I could find, local parks, horse trails, deer trails, hunting trails, any level of biking trail in the parks in NJ and DE and PA and NY that I came across.
I lived in CO for ten years and rode both the DB 26 and 29 down many trails there and all over the Denver metro region

3.) How many bikes you own?
3
Bought new in 2004 - Diamondback XSL 26", - put $1000 of upgrades in to this, moved all the drive train to Shimano XTR and XT with the awesome dual direction shifters.
bought used in 2019 - Diamondback Recoil Comp 29",
bought new in 2025 GT Carbon Sensor Elite 29"
4.) How long have you been riding?
about 23 years, started mountain biking as a kid at boy scout camps in NY and PA, bought a Mongoose full suspension from Walmart and rode that until I destroyed the frame.
