DJI just announced a new e-bike motor and are debuting it on their own new MTB:

I've been in the market for an SL bike and this seems like it could be a game changer, if the claims are true: 105Nm (120 max Nm with boost), 600wh battery with a total bike weight of only ~42 lbs. (2.52kg motor weight).

Seems like they're offering full-power e-bike specs in an SL package. I wonder if this is worth waiting for over existing SL models, and if any other brands have plans to release bikes using this tech would make it even more interesting.

Does look promising altho I don't think you need that much power especially with a lighter weight bike. Gotta be fine with being an early adopter too who knows about reliability. Mid power motor with bigger battery is what I'm looking for in my next E, prioritizing range over power at a reasonable weight mid 40's or so trail bike.

Is it worth waiting for this?
Is it worth waiting for Shimano's answer to this?

Up to you. I have an SL bike that I'm riding today. Got 10 rides in last month on my ebike alone.

There's plenty of development to be done in this space. Up to you when you want to jump in.

As for me, I'll stick to bikes that I can have serviced at my local bike shop. A broken bike is rather worthless to me.

Edit: don't mean to sound like such a downer about this. I like that people are pushing the envelope because it kicks everyone else's ass into gear. But I see this as the next logical step in ebikes rather than a gamechanger. I trust that Shimano and TQ and Fazua and everyone else will have an answer to this in due time.

I think the motor still looks large even though it is relatively light weight. I like the stealthy look of the Fazua Ride 60. What is really interesting are the batteries and the control technology. The control points and the touch screen top tube display look amazing. So much better than anyone else.

What is also interesting is the launch of the ZF motor that is small and supposedly silent. However ZF's controls look as clunky as the rest of the established industry. Now if only we could combine the ZF with the DJI controllers/display...?

They list the USD as one of the markets hat you can order for an it is listed as a 32kph/20mph bike. The order pages takes you to a subscribe link though for updates in the Fall.

MFGs can supply power via the main battery should they choose to.
This is how it should be on all Transmission derailleurs similar to XT Di2. I only want to charge a single battery, not 2 or 3 (if you have the Reverb AXS as well). And on that point, the Reverb AXS needs a redesign that not only increases length but allow power from below via the ebike battery as well.
