Just bought a 2010 specialized hardrock disc. The bike is great but i really want to upgrade the fork to something that can handle a bit rougher riding. The current fork on the bike is a SR Suntour SF8-XCT-V2, 80mm travel. I was looking at maybe getting a Marzocchi z1 FR SL. The problem is i dont know if this fork will even fit on my bike. I know the Marzocchi has a 1-1/8" steer tube and 8.25 inch long with 32mm alloy stanchions and 130mm travel. Can someone help me figure out if this fork will fit? Thanks

That's a 130mm travel fork on a frame designed for no more than 100mm travel. Not good. It will ride like a chopper and put stresses of the headtube/frame it was not designed for, not to mention void your warranty. It also may not have a long enough steerer tube depending on the size of your frame. Nice fork though, just not for your bike.

For your bike, I'd go with something like the 2008 RS 318 Solo Air. It's a 100mm travel fork that works very well. It has 32mm steel stancions. You can find them as low as $250.

If you're riding things that demand all of the potential of a fork like the Z1 FR SL, then you have the wrong bike to begin with.

thanks for the advice. Honestly i dont know if i NEED the Marzocchi fork or something that good, i simply read alot great reviews on it and found one for an amazing price. I do know that i will need some a little rougher since this fork just doesn't have that plush feel when i jump anything over 2-3 feet and i havnt tried out that many bikes/forks to begin with so i am just shooting for what i know is good but thanks again for the advice on the RS 318
