I’m new to droppers. I’ve been using the V2 with a V3 remote that came on my Spur I got this year. This thing is driving me nuts, but not literally driving me “in” the nuts.

The dropper is not returning up all the way, maybe 50% of the time.
- added air to 280-290 psi

- Backed off torque on the seat clamp to 5Nm. This did help, but any lighter and the post will slip even with fiber paste

- Bought a Wolftooth Pro remote thinking this would help with its cam action, but after I realized the V3 remote already has one and I doubt it will solve the issue.

Should I open it up and add slick honey? Smash it with a hammer?

All droppers need service, some more than others and some are easier than others as well. So, don't be too discouraged here. Most likely your first option is the best....I'd probably hold off on the hammer for the moment. Ok...LOLZ out of the way... I usually do a full service on my droppers once a year (OneUp V2 and a PNW Loam Gen3 pretty sure...could be a 2, it's a couple years old). Additional to this, I usually pull the wiper up a couple times during the season (or whenever it's needed), clean everything down and add Slickoleum. I also make sure to do a quick wipe down pretty often (and especially after dirty rides) with a quick silicone spray. Minimal work for maximum performance.

Gotcha, thanks! The dropper is about 8 months old and has been kept pretty clean, so I’d be surprised if a rebuild would help. I haven’t even used it that much. One thing i did notice though is that the dropper needs air WAY more often than my fork or shock.

but adding some grease below the wiper sounds like a worthy effort I’ll give that a go

What Colvin323 said. Here's the vid you want:
Now don't freak out -- it's easy to do even though it may look complicated at first blush.
Give it a shot and your dropper will work as good as new (maybe even better) in no time. (y)

Thanks all, very helpful advice.
I tried loosening the seat post up even more and it does go up all the way, but it’s slower than it used to be, even with an air top off.

wouldn’t have thought it needed service already, but I’m new to droppers so what do I know?! 🤙

I have to use WPL lube to keep my V2 dropper working. I still need to reach out to them because it gets so slow every couple rides since it was new and it is developing a stanchion scratch. Servicing it and sanding the plastic bushing helped a bit.

For me it´s always been friction in the upper bushing when the One Up starts getting slow and sticky. Unscrew collar, slide it up, slide up top bushing, clean as much as you can underneath and add a little lubricant. Takes 10 min tops. For some reason a thin film of my motorex fork bath oil on the dropper shaft seems to work better for me than grease. You would think the grease would stay in place better than the oil but somehow it seems to get sticky quicker than oil.

I like my Oneup but it requires frequent service, unfortunately, particularly when I ride in the wet.

Have you tried cleaning the post and inside the seat tube? My post kept slipping below 5nm too, but once I cleaned all the residual grease out, I was able to go down to 4nm and the post works much better now (and requires much less service).

Interesting ideas about the oil vs grease. So the WPL stuff you just add externally to the wiper and shaft? WPL Fork Boost Oil?

I’d like to try the oil vs grease. I did try a guys Bike Yoke dropper and it was amazingly smooth and easy to operate!

For the post slippage, I’ll try cleaning out the fiber paste and re applying.

Mine was never great from the start. I did a service with Slick Honey after a couple of months and it was much better, but still not up there with the smoother posts.

WPL does work. Just smear a bit on with your finger before each ride. It will of course collect more dust, so wipe clean after each ride.

I just got a new V2 under warranty because I got a scratch down the stanchion. Apparently they recommend greasing the post from brand new, and then every 25 hours thereafter. The V3 I think fixes this issue, and I've got the V2.1 seal kit to put on my new post before I install it on my bike.

Simply unscrewing the collar and putting grease under it is probably not enough of a grease job since not much is going to get deep down inside the sliding grooves/pins where it needs it. I disassemble, clean and grease it few times a year, it works smoothly and always returns to the top without issue. I recently installed the new SKF seal and oversize pins with excellent results.

I wouldn't think oil would work for very long since eventually it would run toward the bottom of the post and not do much good down there.

Mine was sticky from the start, the top seal sucks, seems to let all the grease out. Now I just smear a little slick honey just above the seal before each ride and wipe down after.
