Hi,
Can anyone recommend mudguards (I'm based in the UK!) for a 2021 Specialized Diverge Elite E5? I'd prefer a setup that uses the threaded frame mounts rather than velcro etc for attachment, and I'll be using them with 42mm tyres on 700c rims. I'll be riding on and off-road through the winter.
Thanks!

Hi there, sorry I don't have anything to add, but I recently picked up a 2021 Diverge and have been wondering about the same thing. I will be scouring the internet in the near future and will post up anything I find. I would appreciate if you would let me know if you find anything suitable.

I actually use SKS Speedrocker gravel fenders. They use rubberized hook and loop straps and work great. I put nearly 700 miles through them without any real issues.

I actually came here to ask about the SKS clip on gravel fenders. Do you keep them on, or do you only use them when needed? If so, how is installation/removal?

I get about 250 days of sunshine a year, so full-time fenders are more hassle than convenience. The Speedrockers look good, would be perfect for my use if they were 10mm wider. I'm on a Salsa Cutthroat, though, so SKS's new 29er clip on fenders might be a better bet.

Hi,
I just read about the Bontrager NCS II which might be good - the largest size fits up to 45mm tyres. I'll let you know what I choose to buy!

Hey Beiciwr,
I'm hoping to revive this post.
2 months since your op, and the same issue seems to persist that you ran into... It's very difficult to find info online on good fenders for my new 2021 Diverge E5 Elite.
Much of the info I see indicates that many fenders, even the "Plug and Play" fenders from Specialized, have their issues with setup. Because the bike has 47mm of tire clearance with a 700c wheel and 2.1” with a 650b wheel, I want the widest fender that will properly, and attractively fit, and like you mentioned in your op, I'd also like to use the mounts that Diverge now has on the frame for this purpose.
On a related topic, I also want to add a back rack to mount my older Ortlieb panniers on as well. And I want to be able to take the fenders and rack on and off without having to do more than remove the frame mount screws, if possible.
And while I'm on a roll, spewing my bike wishes..., ideally..., it will look great too, as it's a beautiful bike, and I'd like to respect the sexiness of the ride as much as I can, while I understand there are limits to the sexiness when adding fenders and a rack. Although I've seen some pretty sexy gravel bike packing rigs online. Would love to see anyone's photos of 2021 Diverge with mounted gear any of you might be willing to share along with any mounting advice.

Thanks Beiciwr (or anyone else who has successfully dealt with this hunt...)

I came to this forum to ask about mud gaurds as well. Looking for something not so much to keep myself clean, but to protect the underside of a carbon fork and headset bearings. I have a Mucky Nuts fender of the suspension for on my mtb. Looking for something like that.

It's usually pretty dry where I ride, so I wanted something pretty minimal that could easily take on and off depending on weather conditions.

I ended up going with the PDW Soda Pops, $21 from REI and reasonably light when compared to full coverage fenders. They cleared my 30mm tires stock, but they took a little modification to clear my 42mm Resolutes.

Performance wise, I'd put these in the "better than nothing" category in that I stay dryer than my un-fendered friends, but the front does not go down far enough to keep my feet dry, and my back still gets a little road spray.

Just got my Diverge last weekend. 61cm E5 Elite. Haven't even ridden it yet, but installed these fenders. I've been running fenders like these on another gravel bike for 7 years without at hitch. They are SKS Commuter II Bluemels, 53mm wide, I think. I'm running 44 mm wide tires and there appears to be enough clearance. I still need to trim the fender stays.

I didn't want to use the plastic fender bridge, so I made these brackets out of aluminum angle.

Also needed a long spacer for the BB. Used the long bolt from the SKS fender set and turned the spacer on my lathe.

I got a clean looking install, as I had hoped.

Hope this gives you some ideas around fenders.

I gave the SKS Veloflexx 55s a shot on my 2019 Diverge. First problem I ran into was that they were too wide to fit underneath the crown of the fork. No worries, I took out the Dremel and got to modifying. Unfortunately, the hanger where the posts attach to the fender interfered with my Schwalbe 40s, so no go. On top of that, the rear looks to have the same fitment issues.

Any other suggestions beyond the SKS Speedrockers? Any experiences with the stock Plug & Play when used with a 2019?

EDIT- Went ahead and gave it another shot. A few more modifications and I got them to work!

This looks really clean. Excellent job!
Where can I find the brackets and the long bolt for the back and front fenders? I'd like to replicate your set up for my own diverge bike.

Notes from installing Specialized Dry-Tech Fenders on a 2022 Specialized Diverge E5 (Alloy Frame).

Used the 42mm Dry-Tech Fender Set. The 52mm set is too wide and won't fit in forks.

Components used in addition to those supplied with fenders:
1x M5 30mm Black Nylon Spacer (ID=5.2mm, OD(D)=10mm)
1x M5 45mm A2 Stainless Steel Hex Socket Button Head Allen Bolt
1x M5 12mm Black Stainless Steel Hex Socket Head Cap Screw
M5 10mm Black Nylon Washers
Blue thread-lock
3mm Allen Key

Used the M5 x 12mm screw to fix front mudguard to back of the forks just below the headset.

Combined the 30mm nylon spacer with one of the 5mm spacers from kit to use with the M5 45mm bolt to fix rear mudguard to the hole behind the bottom bracket.

Used nylon washers between metal clips and the forks and frame to prevent damage.

Used blue thread-lock on all bolts to prevent loosening during rides.

Added the 3mm Allen key to saddle bag. It will be needed for puncture repair because the P-clips block axle removal.
