I've been riding 30yrs and wouldn't do it. I accept risks for myself only. There is such a narrow window of say 3-4years from birth to actually having your kids riding with you on basic trails. Trying not to judge anyone here, I just don't see the value in trail riding with a toddler on an adult bike.
I agree with you. I remember once being in a rapidly deteriorating situation when I had my youngest on a tag-along on a rail trail and he was falling asleep as we were trying to get back to the car. I was shouting out and singing to try and keep him awake...

Did you raise kids?

Yes. Well, currently raising...
Right on, then you know what risks you are and are not willing to take. I started my son on the green seat thing when he was under 2, and moved to the MacRide as soon as I learned about it.
My daughter started on the MacRide at 13 months old, on the beach cruiser first, but then on my mountain bike. I have crashed once with my son on the bike, just a little slide out. The stirrups were awesome and protected his legs. Not a scratch on him. I think it only happened because I was riding at night. After that I never rode at night with the kids.
My son is exclusively on his own bike and my daughter is age 3 and starting to adapt and want her balance bike more. I am not criticizing your decision, everyone has to make their own decision. The only thing I will say is the time on the mac ride helps ingrain some balance early on that directly plays into bike skills.

I was so excited to get my son out on trails but not to the point of endangering him. Progressing through the stages was something I wouldn’t trade for the world. All on used gear, probably not losing any money when I went to sell them. Chariot trailer, Weehoo trailer, Specialized Hotrock, GF Superfly. All so much fun in their own way. We are now into bmx.

So many great memories, but near the top of the list was him yelling “wee hoo!!!” the first time we hit single track in the Weehoo.
