Moonlander fork confusion?

I'm considering building up a Moonie, but there seems to be two forks out there- the standard 135 zero offset and a 28 mm offset to match the rear. Are the offset forks new? I would prefer to have both ft and rr offset "just in case".

New as they are new to the moonlander 2013 bikes. Not new to Surly. They, Surly, had the Pugsley equipped with the offset fork. The 2013 bikes are only coming with the offset fork and there is no chance of ordering the 13's with the non offset fork. I emailed Surly and that is what they told me.

You can build the front wheel around a singlespeed hub and use it as a backup in case the freewheel on your rear wheel fails.

However, using a regular cassette rear hub gets you virtually 100/100 tension between the spokes and an equal spoke length, and you can use a singlespeed spacer kit and a single sprocket as Lars Thomsen suggested.

So basically you'll just need to build two rear wheels and install one in the front. Omit the cassette from the front wheel if you want to save money and weight.

It could not be easier!

As it has been pointed out if you use a rear cassette hub with an offset wheel you end up with nearly equal spoke tension on both sides of the wheel and the same spoke length. The only cassette hub that comes to mind where you would not use the same spoke length on the wheel would be one of the Sram rear hubs. A calc. for a 28mm offset with a Clown shoe with X9 rear comes out 265 drive/263 nondrive.

Stock wheels with this offset:
WE4921-is the 28mm offset with XT Shimano hub
WE4922-is the 28mm offset with DT 350 hub

I solved my own problem by ordering a '13 that comes offset on both ends. I didn't know there was a DT hub option though. I would be willing to pay a little more for that, because the dreaded stock XT will be replaced (Hope or Hadley) before the first ride.

sorry to be retarded,
i have a moonlander, i can tell the rear is offset but the front looks non-offset.
i am looking at a summer rims (marge lites)

two questions;

first, is it possible my front is non offset? how do i be sure?
second, how much offset does my rear need ? currently running B/L easily

thanks for tolerating my ignorance

You're poking the google-that-sh*t-dragon around here with this query, but here goes...(I heart Moonies)...

Only the 2013 'Space Black' complete was offered offset. If you have a stock 2012 Space Black or 2014 Metallic Sand it's a non-offset/symmetrical front end.

If that doesn't help, just look at the lacing pattern compared to the rear and it's pretty obvious whether it's offset or not. The spokes will be laced symmetrically (evenly spaced relative to both sides of the rim) if it's a symmetrical front. Also, maybe even more obvious, the offset fork has a funky bend in one of the legs.
