Ive been riding my HDR with a fox CTD shock for about 7 months. My problem with it is that there isn't much room for a custom tune unless you send it in.... all three modes on the shock feel the same when you're running more then 25% sag, if you're running 25% or less then the climb setting is pretty stiff but then trail and descend feel like crap. It's a decent shock but I will be upgrading to a Vector Air, Monarch plus, or Fox Float X, when I save up some money.Does anyone have anything positive to say about using the Fox CTD on this bike...ANY-ONE...???
Thanx for your input. Looks like I'll end up with the Cane Creek DB or Monarch Plus. Glad I held off on the Fox. Almost gave the heads up last Thursday for the Fox, but decided to look into it a bit more. That Cane Creek DB Inline looks real sweet, but I can't wait for it to be available.Ive been riding my HDR with a fox CTD shock for about 7 months. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy riding my bike and on any given day I'm shock will always be in descend mode.... I have a 130 rear and fox evolution 150mm up front and I feel rather balanced for the riding here in JapanThanx for your input. Looks like I'll end up with the Cane Creek DB or Monarch Plus. Point taken. Some day I'll get to Japan. Always wanted to go. I'll be in Moab / Crested Butte / Fruita for September through early October. Can't wait to ride this bike. It's been a while since I've had a new bike. I'll likely go with the Cane Creek DB. My last shock was a Cane Creek DB Coil spring, and it was super high quality, utterly reliably excellent. In fact, this will be / is my first air (rear) shock. I'm wanting this bike to be more manageable weight wise than My Knolly was. My Knolly sucked the energy out of me uphill. The Ibis I am building as an all around superior bike for all around use. I climb alot, and for sure I do a lot of epic distance riding, but I've been getting more and more into fast, technical descents. So I think this Ibis HDR 650B is going to be pretty good solution.Don't get me wrong I really enjoy riding my bike and on any given day I'm shock will always be in descend mode.... Thanx for the input. You're the 3rd person whose said the same thing about the Fox, the one guy who loves it had it tuned and built by a shock tuner just for the ibis and said it made a world of difference compared to how it was when he got it. Unfortunately him and his tuner are in UK and I'm in USA.Well the fox seems OK... I've never ridden a ccdb so maybe I don't know what I'm missing. I feel like the fox has a very small window where I can get it to feel plush but not bottom out hard. Honestly if I had a do-over I'd get a Cane Creek.
I'm running a 32 t ring with the 10-42 cassette. Short, steep climbs mostly, there were a couple of times I wanted a lower gear , but the DW susp pedals so well you can stand up and ride it like a SS.

Been pretty happy with my rp23, I'm running the 160 travel version though. You can also do some very easy tuning yourself with the volume Spacer kit from fox, don't even have to take the shock off the bike to do it. There was already a small volume reducer in the 160 from IBIS for my extra large frame.Nice Pics. I'm still making build selections. Curious to know IF your happy with the Fox rear shock...? Also, what gearing is giving you good climbing with the 27.5's...?
Nice bike! Stack height is a very individual thing. People who have short legs/longer torso will run a short stack. I have a short torso and short arms hence I ride a taller stack.I set the stem stack height at 25mm, though I've noticed a lot of people like it much shorter. I've gone as low as 10mm on my last HD but felt a bit too hunched over. Was wondering why that is such a popular configuration?
Nice setup Gate49! The move toward low stems has coincided with a move toward much shorter stems too, which moves your hand position, but works out so that your pedaling position and degree of bend at the hips is more or less unchanged. Try it, but ride what feels good to you. There's a fine line between trying new stuff that works, and just chasing e-ride trends.I set the stem stack height at 25mm, though I've noticed a lot of people like it much shorter.
