Anyone had anything like this...? i can pretty much guarantee that i haven't dropped it or crashed on it at all;

theres also what looks like a hairline crack on the other side, its hard to photograph but will try in the light tomorrow..

the bottom pic is before i removed the heli tape, the tape was undamaged but took a tiny bit of the gel coat away.

Got my HD3 built up a couple of months ago and I am extremely pleased with it. So much fun climbing descending the HD3 does it all better than any other bike I've ridden.

Man I wish I could get mine down to 26.6lbs.. Not sure why mine weighs more.
The tires and crank saves a lot. The Next crank is superlight and the Nobby Nics are probably very light as well. Mine weighs 13,3 kg (29,3 lbs) with Race Face Turbine Cinch crank and Maxxis High Roller II EXO tires. It would be fun to go down to under 13kg (28 lbs) but function goes before weight.

Yeah the wheels and tires make a big difference. The wheelset came out at 1520g, and both tires right around the 700g mark. Set up tubeless the whole package is very light especially for a 28mm internal width rim, and full sized 2.35 tires. The main compromise however is durability and overall traction running NN's vs a Maxxis DHF/DHR II/HR II/Etc.

For me the new version of the NN seem to last ok on the terrain I ride and they grip well enough that I don't feel held back on the descents. The low weight is very noticeable on the climbs and it makes the bike feel light and nimble, and overall it's a tradeoff I am willing to make.

From your picture I take it that you live somewhere with a dry climate. This is not the case for me here in Scandinavia right now ;) It's autumn and mud, wet roots and rocks is a fact. Thats why I opted for the HR II EXO. Good grip and reinforced sidewalls so it's possible to run them with low tirepressure. When summer comes I'll probably test some lighter tires though.

^^Nice looking bike. I would swap the tires around tho as the HR2 is more aggro and better suited to the front for agressive cornering while the Tomahawk more than holds it's own on the rear and rolls faster. If really muddy, use HR2 front and back or HR2 rear, DHF front.

Have FUN!

Thanks for the hint.

I have a Tomahawk on the front of my HD (replaced a badly deformed HRII). It went on the front of the HD because I was heading to Mt Stromlo (Canberra, Australia) where the surface is practically concrete with a small sized grit covering. The Tomahawk felt and looked like it would be a good surface match (it was) so I put the same on the front of the HD3 however I have head a few others suggest putting it on the rear.

Will give it a try this weekend.

Cheers.

For what its worth, my custom build from CC just shipped today... Blue, size large... Only thing screwed up is the fork, wanted a pike 160 rct3 SA but got a 160/130mm DPA, such is life.
m3the01: I'm coming from a TALAS 140/120 on my Mojo SL, so I'm curious about how the 160/130 DPA rides on the HD3. We have some really tight, 180 degree switchbacks on the trails I frequent around here that are nearly impossible to navigate unless I drop the fork into short travel mode. I test rode an HD3 and although I plowed through the downhills readily, I didn't particularly prefer the handling on the tight and twisty stuff over my steeper, shorter-travel Mojo SL.

Do you or anyone else here have any recommendations on forks in regards to dual position/TALAS vs. 150 vs. 160mm?

The old 3-position TALAS is a totally different fork from the newer two-position TALAS. That said, I was already leaning toward a 160/130 DPA, but would love to hear from anyone who has tried it or a new TALAS on the HD3, and what types of riding you do.

Happy Thanksgiving gang!

Is there any consensus on sag for those of you running the Pike 160? Didn't really see a Pike tuning thread for the HD3 and was hoping for some good baseline starting points for those of you that run this setup. Thanks in advance.
