Interesting - Butcher controls work great for me as a front tire on my Light Bicycle 38mm rims. granted they are 31.6mm inside diameter so small than Ibis/Derby - and inline with the fattie rims that specialized offers. Maybe they have a ~33m ID cutoff?

Here's mine....

This was largely a parts swap with my beloved HDR650b, which I sold to a good friend who was looking to upgrade from his 2006 SC BLT. I've only had one ride on it, and it was not in anger, so can't really do a proper ride review, but overall it felt fun and solid.

Can't wait to start pushing it. Apologies for the craptastic pics. Will post more once it's good and dirty!

Medium Black HD3 frame
DB Inline
RS Pike at 150 for now (will bump it today maybe)
Thompson 50mm X4 stem
Ibis Carbon bar
ODI Rogue grips
CK headset
CK hubs with LB 35mm wide rims,
Sapim spokes; wheels built by Jude at Sugar Wheel works
RF Next SL cranks; 30t ring.
RF BB
SRAM XX1 rear der
XX1 shifter
XX1 Cassette
Shimano XTR trail brakes (LOVE them, still!)
Shimano XT Trail SPDs
Straitline flats (I flip flop flats & clips)
MRP AMP carbon guide/skid plate (tolerance seems tight! Might have messed this up somewhere...)
KS LEV (still loving this post, like being able to swap it around easily too)
WTB Ti saddle

Weight... Not sure. Lighter then my old HDR650b though. Will update with weight.

what's the wide of your handlebar and the length of your stem? i'm pretty same size as you, just for comparison.
Stem is 50mm, bar width is whatever the stock Ibis carbon bar is... 740mm?

You may have to look that up on the Ibis site as I don't have the # handy. A lot of folks seem to like wider bars then these, but I've been riding narrow bars for years along with riding narrower technical trails with spots that are harder to fit through (and don't have wide shoulders,) so the stock width was fine.

thx for the info. stock bar is 740. i'll run a 50 mm stem too, with a 760 bar. ther's no 740 RF next so i bought the 760. testing and if it doesn't fit, i'll cut it back to 740. on my actual bike is a 710 bar so i'm used to it. btw i'm 1.71 m

Butcher is the worst tire EVER on wide rims. I know several people including myself that have the exact same experience. Something about the tire just doesn't mesh for some reason. On the other side the Slaughter is amazing in Socal conditions.
I can't agree more with Salespunk on this. Actually for him to say Slaughter is good is surprising to me too. I had the Butcher/Slaughter combo on initially. The sidewalls are super thin so it's not supportive at all. If you decide to go grid I suppose you can get some more support but at that weight, why?

My experience with the Slaughter was here in the PNW. I didn't experience it during the summer seasons (which is what Sales is working with) but for NW rain, I couldn't for the life of me feel confident. I would slip and slide on roots and rocks and when my bike started leaning, there was a spot on the angle I had to get past before it would really hook up. If I didn't need to lean that much, I was toast.

I'm on schwalbe HD/Nobby combo now while it's still wet. couldn't be more happy.

I can't imagine riding the Slaughter in slop. Sounds like a death wish!

Ha. yeah it was. pair that with my crappy butcher and I was a mess. Although now my nobby nics are prob too much for the summer time. I may give the slaughter another try. or just opt for the Schwalbe Rock Razor. So far I've been very impressed with Schwalbe products on my derby's.

Don't so the RR just go back to the Slaughter. Far superior tore in every aspect. Grip wear etc.

Here's my HD3 Special Blend with KS Dropper, Ibis 741's and a 1X10 conversion. I'm loving this bike.

The only thing I'm going to change is the seat as it's a pain in my @$$.
Clean setup! I had the x-fusion slant for a while. awesome fork! awesome company to work with! I put a little more air pressure than I normally would but other than that best bang for the buck!

Word of advice, when you go to service your wipers (if you plan on doing it yourself), a double chainring bolt will save you from stripping the bottom nuts when trying to unseat the damper (I learned the hard way).

Have fun!

I like the lighter green decals. Did you get those from slick graphics and what colors did you choose? I like the ones from ibis but the dark green I'm not as huge of fan off.

Yeah the fork decals came from slik. I just chose the diffusion fork color option & the green stock diffusion stickies to go along. The diffusion black fork & the ibis rim color match well. All this green shiz is definatley making me faster.
