i had a medium nomad.. moved to a large hd3. but im not much help

 

If the nomad is a bit overkill you'll get on well with the HD3. Just put a 160mm fork on their and some proper tires. Tight, twisty and chunky single track both up and down the HD3 rocks. Wide open chunky downs, bike park stuff the nomad wins.

Any advise on good looking grips matching the matte black frame?

Looking at either the light blue ESI grips, og the blue half-Nelson grips from raceface. Also considering light gray grips, but unsure if that gives enough "pop".

Does the HD3 use a 51mm offset like the Ripley? I don't see any evidence of that on website, but I'm going to slowly assemble my parts for a 2017 HD3 build.

Nope, only for frames designed around a 51mm offset suspension fork. Mostly 29rs.

Just finished building up my first Ibis... a beautiful HD3 that started as a Special Blend build, but has gone far beyond that now. I'm coming from a Nomad, it's interesting to see how differently two 160mm travel bikes can handle. The HD3 seems to be way more of a trail-oriented bike, which suits me just fine. As-is, the bike weighs about 28 lbs with pedals.

Just ordered a large Special Blend build with a Fox Float X remote shock. Should be ready next week.

 

Do they sell it with the Float X now? More progressive option than the X2?

 

No, Ibis doesn't offer the Float X as an option. However, the shop I ordered my bike through was willing to exchange the X Fusion shock with the Float X remote for an up charge. I chose to go with the Float X because I wanted the 3-position remote option and something a bit beefier than the Float DPS. Also, to install the 3-position remote on the DPS would have cost $270+ per Fox.
