That hole is threaded, I guess you could screw in some type of cable guide. I have it also. I was more worried about the non-perfect hole above the BB area , below the hole you show. It looked like it could be a void of some type. But its just a drain hole. My Ripley has it also.

BTW, I have an extra plastic downtube protector for a l/xl frame if anyone is looking to buy one....

Thank frickin' gad. I about crapped myself when I saw this perfect round hole in my frame. It looked like somebody had drilled it....well, I guess they did. Huge relief for me. Yeah, I noticed the holes under the BB area....figured they were for drainage. However, one on the downtube had me a bit concerned.

was supposed to take delivery today of a Medium black X01 - sounds like there may have been a major shipment delay at ibis and everyone's been pushed back to the end of Feb.. That or they were blowing smoke

Isn't that for brake cable routing if you don't have the downtube protector?

Any builders using a chainguide? Talk about some tight tolerances with the upper guide and the lower pivot...
The MRP AMG touch the lower pivot...

Are you using any spacers behind the guide? How's your bb set up?

I'm running the alloy AMG and got mine to fit using the supplied 2mm spacers. I'm also running the RF bb with adaptor and 1 spacer on drive side and 1 spacer on non drive side. I have just over 1mm of clearance between the guide and the pivot link bolt. Been running this for about 3wks with no issues. Only the slightest bit of chain rub on the guide when I'm climbing in the 42t.

yeah there's definitely a compromise. add the spacer in, compromise perfect chainline. I think we moved the BB over slightly so we're about one cog over. That's giving me a 1-2 mm spacing in the pivot... phew very close.

I've been running XX1 for about a year and probably 800 miles. I haven't had the chain drop once.

This said, are you all installing these because you've experienced chain drops or more for bash/chainring protection because you ride in areas where you need to clear big rocks?

eta: the reason I ask is my brother bought me an MRP AMG ISCG5 for my birthday back in September and I haven't seen the need for the darn thing.

Mine is more for the bashguard. I also use XX1 so I"m not too worried about chaindrop. I've had my MRP before the clutch RD so there was a point in time where the upper guide was important to me.

I almost considered just chopping off the upper chainguide and use just the bashguard but I've made mine work. If my chain skips beyond my patience, I may still do it.

OK, yeah the model I have allows me to actually just unscrew the chain guide and not use it all all. Bashguard appears to be a replaceable very hard plastic piece. I need to clear large logs around my parts, but not big boulders/rocks where the chainring would get damaged. Trees don't do much, at least not if it's only occasionally.

For bash protection. SoCal super chunk. Not only for protection from bashing it against rocks on climbs but also for rebounding baby heads/etc on the downs. First carbon frame and much lower BB than my previous bike. I run a guide and bash protection on all my bikes. I'm paranoid.
