HD3 2x11 XT

After a long search, analysis, & test riding different sizes and build options along with other bike alternatives, my steed is finally here. XL HD3, 2x11 XT (M8000), RS Pike, Fox Float DPS, DT Swiss 350 on Stans Flow, Maxxis Minion DHF, KS Lev dropper. Thanks to Mark C at ProBike Supply for his patience, guidance and build flexibility. He even brought in an XL (when very few were available) to test ride when I visited his shop earlier this year. Thanks to Invisiframe for the fast production/shipment of the matte finish frame protection kit. First ride at South Mtn, Phoenix on familiar trails was so much fun. Only needed a few small tweaks in the ergonomics and suspension set up. Love how it rides high in the rear travel, but is still so small bump compliant. 2x11 XT works flawless and is dead quiet. Fantastic ride.

interesting subject.
never measured myself barefoot. but im 5'10 with 5ten shoes on "35mm" stem.
and on a large
had a medium sl before "even with a 70mm stem"and was totally cramped. seems a big some times but most the time im happy. very happy.
but im sat in a chair all day tattooing people so my spine likes being stretched out

Anyone running the Float DPS Evol shock? I'm hearing too many issues with the Inlines, and Ibis doesn't even consider that an upgrade anymore, but I think the X2 may be overkill for my needs?

I love rocky tech combined with flow and I only get about 2 lift days a year. For those that have the Float DPS is it a true "all mountain" shock or will I find it lacking and move up to the X2. Last decision before order goes in tomorrow morning!

Just returned from Moab, UT with HD3 on 160Pike with DPS Evol out back. It performed excellent. I've ridden FSR's for 17+ years and the HD3 with DW Link and DPS Evol soaked up all the chunk of UPS and LPS that will test any suspension to its limit - view Captain Ahab or LPS/Porcupine portion of the Whole Enchilada to get an idea of the terrain. I passed on the DBInline for reliability concerns but really did want it. Fox made great improvements on the DPS Evol vs any previous Triad / CTD. I really wanted the adjustability of the Inline and considered the X2 also but chose the DPS Evol which can be set up very, very well for the HD3. No regrets.

Anyone had anything like this...? i can pretty much guarantee that i haven't dropped it or crashed on it at all;

theres also what looks like a hairline crack on the other side, its hard to photograph but will try in the light tomorrow..

the bottom pic is before i removed the heli tape, the tape was undamaged but took a tiny bit of the gel coat away.

Man I wish I could get mine down to 26.6lbs.. Not sure why mine weighs more.
The tires and crank saves a lot. The Next crank is superlight and the Nobby Nics are probably very light as well. Mine weighs 13,3 kg (29,3 lbs) with Race Face Turbine Cinch crank and Maxxis High Roller II EXO tires. It would be fun to go down to under 13kg (28 lbs) but function goes before weight.

^^Nice looking bike. I would swap the tires around tho as the HR2 is more aggro and better suited to the front for agressive cornering while the Tomahawk more than holds it's own on the rear and rolls faster. If really muddy, use HR2 front and back or HR2 rear, DHF front.

Have FUN!

Thanks for the hint.

I have a Tomahawk on the front of my HD (replaced a badly deformed HRII). It went on the front of the HD because I was heading to Mt Stromlo (Canberra, Australia) where the surface is practically concrete with a small sized grit covering. The Tomahawk felt and looked like it would be a good surface match (it was) so I put the same on the front of the HD3 however I have head a few others suggest putting it on the rear.

Will give it a try this weekend.

Cheers.
