Haggis and Jazz, your experience is that I won't lose any technical climbing or descending prowess on the larger frame?

The large HD3 geo is a good amount larger in scale than the medium version 1 Bronson I'm coming off. I just feel like it may be too much on tight switchbacks and techie portions of the trail where just plowing straight down isn't the best (or most fun) option.

Here's a pic of a 5'7" rider on a medium: http://forums.mtbr.com/ibis/mojo-hd3-picture-build-thread-939582-17.html#post11709183
The large is not as large as the numbers might indicate... The wheelbase is quite short and the seat angle is slack so ETT isn't a good indicator of feel. Its feels short for a large.

Haha yeah.
I had a medium mojo sl. Way to small "tight"
Medium nomad3 felt to long in a odd kinda way.
Now on a large hd3. It's large and I'm in the middle of the size chart. 5'10ish with my 5tens on :p
stealth post slammed down and in normal on the rails. im pretty flipping chuffed with it with a 35mm stem.

Strange the medium N3 felt too long and L HD3 feels good to you.
The TT is about 35mm longer and the reach almost 20mm longer on the L HD3.
I am 5'8.5" and both medium N3 and HD3 were just too short. Large N3 with a 35mm stem is perfect.

150mm or 160mm???????

Ok so I now have three rides in on my new HD3, I came from a Bronson 150mm with Enves and XX1, it was sporting a ccdb air in the rear and a 150 pike up front. I am now on a new HD3 with the XO1 build , 160mm pike and a fox float evol dps. I weigh 210lbs and I am running 75lbs up front and 195lbs in the shock. 32 psi rear tire and 30 front[
........
So i can't seam to get comfortable, I feel like the front end is really raked out and pushing through corners, any hints, suggestions, etc.... would be great.
plus this bike is supposed to be an awesome climber where i feel like the Bronson climbed better (at least how i am set up).
Are you guys running 150 or 160 forks ?????????
Help me out here boys , PLEASE

Just a guess but your Bronson had notably longer chainstays which allow for lazier cornering by naturally shifting weight to the front wheel. On a shorter chainstays bike, you have to more actively weight the front to corner hard. You could drop the pike to 150 if you don't like this feeling to help as well.

Edit: could be too much sag in rear as well?

Haggis, the bike was originally built for a 150 fork. Yes it is specd out now with a 160 only due to people asking for it. The bike will perform differently with 150 vs 160 including but not limited too HTA changing. I was just wondering for those who have ridden both what they preferred and why? I def think a 150 would be better for climbing and it seams the bike would corner better.

You know that everyone is different and we all ride different terrain and attack with different skill levels.

That said, I have my Pike at 160 with 60 psi and two tokens with 3 clicks of rebound and 5 clicks of LSC. Feels good and use 100% travel on most hard rides.

Shock - Can't remember the exact settings but still tweaking. i am at 30% sag and still bottoming with too much HSC...so i am going to install another Volume spacer and bcak off the HSC so I can get rid of the high speed chatter crap that I started feeling once I bumped up the HSC. Don't get me wrong, this still rides better than my BikeCo custom tuned shock for my HD, but it can still be better with a little teaking.

Not even going to get into my tire pressures because I ride 741's and you have flows so no need to compare the apples and oranges there...but I do ride very low pressures..10 psi less than my Flow sized LightBike wheels I ran in my HD.

Go play around, drop $35 bucks on a 150mm shaft for the Pike and enjoy your bike however you end up setting it up.

I have had my PIKE at 150 and 160, (and then back at 150)

Going from 150 to 160
In tight turns and steep climbing i realy felt the drawback og the higher front and slacker angel. The steering got a bit to floppy for my likeings.
I did convince my self i could go a lot faster downhill, but when testing the fork at 150 again, i sat an record at an short "DH" segment...

I feel the HD3 is very vell balanced with an 150 fork.

Wheels n Tires oh my !!!!!

OK Wow. So on my old bike (Bronson) u had some Enve M60 s with Hr2 and an Ardent.
My new HD3 came with Flow ex wheels and Minion 2.3 Dhfs. I just swapped to Roval Traverse SL Carbon Fatties ( 31mm inner width) wheels with continue trail king / mountain king combo 2.4. I can now say with some adjustments to my fork and shock this bike fu×&#€!*÷ RIPS........I am in Love with this bike and this wheelset. All I can say is if you are not loving your HD3 , spend some time trying all different air pressures and rebound settings and invest in some good wheels. Best $ I spent on a bike in a long time.

Glad to hear as well...now you see why we were all saying no need to drop to 150...but you can if you want to.

ENJOY!!!
