Starting to bank a good chunk of hours on the HD3 on local trails I know back to front, and have ridden many, many times on the HD and HDR over the years. For sure the latter remain great, fun bikes but damn... the HD3 is proving to be a seriously impressive do-it-all bike.

The improved pedaling performance alone is a big deal, effecting every part of the ride. The HD3 climbs more like a short/mid travel 29er than the HD/HDR or a 6" bike IMO - very direct and effiicient feel. Also stomp on the pedals at any time, out of corners etc and there's an immediate snappy response.

Fully open, the shock is so settled on smooth terrain, climbs etc but immediately lively as needed

Add in the cockpit changes, BB etc... the thing is just so agile and responsive overall. It begs you to ride familiar trails way more aggressively.

FWIW here's a little video compilation of the first 90 seconds or so of every local ride of mine, with the GoPro pointed down towards the shock. I leave my house, climb to the nature reserve behind the house and then scoot down. Feels like leaving the bat cave which is always fun.

Anyway hope it gives you a sense of the behaviour of the rear end of the bike (with the shock fully open, factory settings). Up and down it feels pretty frickin awesome from a rider's point of view, and kinda adds a new lease of life to my local trails.. bonus!

totally agree. I've got 15 or so rides in on mine...mostly in the open space behind my house...so they're trails that I know REALLY well...the thing that strikes me most is that the bike pedals so much like my Ripley...closer to my Ripley than to my HDR. And that's a compliment. I'm not talking about pure climbing efficiency...I'm talking about that sense that at any time you can jump on the power and get that immediate sense of forward thrust. It's really remarkable. Then I added the super-fatties rims (741's on kings) and that was a whole new set of giggles railing bermy singletrack and doing drops / jumps that I've done 100's of times before.

yeah riderup, +1 to all of that!

Love the direct feel of the HD3's rear end. Kinda like sportscar performance, makes you want to stomp on the pedals more often just to feel the bike zip forward. And the 741's are another whole world of goodness on top of everything else!

Hello,
Does anyone remember the guy that used to sell the pre-cut frame protection(Fishkin?) from the 1st gen. Mojo's? Invisiframe in UK has them, but the shipping though....I just wanted to compare the price.
Thanks in advanced.....

FYI: after my ride yesterday I noticed that both bolts that connect the rear triangle to the yoke were very loose. Like a few turns from having fallen all the way out. I checked every other bolt on the bike and the rest were tight to spec. Just those two bolts I mentioned (not the inner bolts but the two larger exterior connectors.
I check and mine also are loose, are they really suppose to go to 15Nm? I've got say 15 hrs of hard saddle time on her.

Yeah, I've always followed their torque guide. However, 15Nm seems like a lot for clevis to seat stay. I've got a relatively new torque wrench and just wanna make sure. The rest are larger bolts that state 15Nm

Waiting on my XL frame, been gathering all the other bits. Since it's a build picture thread, and I'm bummed I can't play yet, here's a few shots of the wheels I'll be using.

You didn't happen to get a weight for rims only, did you? What spokes and nipples did you use?

What spokes were used in this build and did you get a 2x or 3x on the spokes? I've got the same hubs being shipped for me to rebuild my wheels with. I'm using Sapim CX-Rays and a 2x pattern.

Are i9 hubs heavy? That's quite a bit heavier than the stock 741 wheelset weight of 1670g

Love the understated graphics. That would be my choice as well. Those colorful decals that Ibis offers are too Enve-wannabe imho.

No rim only weight. In fact, I blew it and didn't even weigh the 741's as I received them (with the non-DT Swiss rear hub option). Should've at least done that, I thought to myself, 2 days later. No, I just turned the box they came in right around to Wheelbuilder.com.

Knowing very little about wheel building, I let them spec the spokes based on my stats....they used Sapim Race Double-Butted, and Sapim 14mm Brass Nipples.

This is my first custom wheel build...my last couple wheel sets have been off the shelf I9's, so not familiar with 2x vs 3x. I assume this has something to do with how they laced them? I told Wheelbuilder.com I'm 230 lbs, told 'em it was for a Mojo HD3, and the spoke specs above are what they came back with.

That's surprising. Really wish I had weighed them stock. All I know is the I9 hubs were slightly lighter than Chris Kings according to spec. I guess it wouldn't surprise me if they were heavier than the stock 741 hubs....I've been using I9 stuff on my last couple bikes with trouble-free results, and let's face it, at 6' 4", 230 lbs, lightweight components are relative. My 30 lb build is comparable to a lighter rider's 27 pounder.

Picked up my HD3 last night but won't be able to do a test run until Friday. I was amazed to see that they modified the ports for the Reverb. It looks completely factory. Here's a pic Lars sent me yesterday:

Trailhead also just finished another complete build on a 917 and that color looks way better in person than in pics. This one had XX1 and XTR brakes. So sick.
