Making sense of the ‘19 GT Sensor 29

The new Sensor has good value, good initial reviews and seems to fit in perfectly next to other exciting new short travel 29ers like the SBG Transition Smuggler. Except for one important geo figure: bb height. Even in the low geo setting the Sensor bb is about 17mm higher than the Smuggler. This might be a welcome change for some with really rocky climbs or tall people who need to run 175mm cranks. It’s also a golden opportunity for those who like to experiment with wheel sizes, specifically mixed wheels sizes: 29 front 27.5 rear. I have played around with the reverse mullet a bit and really really liked it. You get the incredible 29er stability and traction you need through the bars and front end, but the snappy, playful rear 27.5ers are know for.

I started this thread hoping to get some input from knowledgeable ppl on this idea and maybe to inspire some others to try it. Correct me if I’m wrong: the overall wheel diameter difference between 29 and 27.5 is 38mm when running the same tires. If you run a 27.5+ that number goes down a bit. So you’re looking at a 19mm drop in the rear axle height, which will net about 10mm drop in bb height and -1 degree slackening of the hta and sta. The seat can be slid forward to help counteract the slacker sta, making the tt length a bit shorter.

Reverse mullet GT Sensor geo changes:
64.5 hta
75 sta
346 bb height

Sounds like a pretty incredible trail bike to me. I’m in the market for a bike like this and just might pull the trigger when frame sets become available next month.

Guys I started this thread to discuss mulleting the sensor. I even proposed gt made the angles and bb height specifically to mullet the bike for their athletes bc they knew it was faster. But mainstream retail buyers still aren't ready for the mullet.

Putting my money where my mouth is, I bought the sensor and mulleted it. It was good. Since then I bought a mullet decoy and the the recently dropped spesh status. IMHO mullets are ideal for sendy riders of average and below height. Borrow a wheel from another bike and try it.

Trying to get a sense of resale $ for my small '20 Pro. Brand new frame built up with similar to the complete Pro build parts as in Jensons $5500 build except 140 34 PE instead of a 36, pretty much as new XX1/GX shift/rr der, Level brakes 180 rotors etc. Brand new unridden wheels, tires,Shimano crankset,10/51t microspline Hyperglide+ cassette and chain.
Have just posted here in Classified Forum as well as CL/PB.

Went otb yesterday and both cablestays popped off. The bike landed on top of me after I rolled and the bike never hit the ground, so it's difficult to find any valid force as to why they popped off aside from it being a very weak spot that's probably just glued on. Any way I can get this covered by warranty, what would you do?

Word of advice, remove your cables from these cablestays, it's not worth the pain of having it come off and removing paint...

It's hard to say what sort of forces a bike is subjected to during an event like you described but I would absolutely at least ask about front triangle warranty replacement. Worst they can do is say no.
Yeah true, just abit of a bummer. Now I know not to leave the cables attached any longer. I'm sure others might wanna do the same at least.
