Building up a new Pivot Mach 5.5 and trying to find a lightweight 11 speed cassette, non xd, in a 11-42 or 11-46. I've looked at most of the usual offerings, but not having much luck. The Garbaruk 11 speed cassettes are very interesting and definitely lighter than most cassettes. Only problem, they're hard to find in stock. Anyone got any suggestions??

Yeah I saw that on their website. R2 bikes is considerably cheaper, but they won't have any stock for 2-4 weeks. If I went XD driver, I think I could find a lighter weight cassette from Sram. Just not sure going XD gives me much benefit, or am I wrong?

That 10t vs 11t small cog on the xD adds more range than you think. 10% on the front would be a 30 vs. 33 for example.

OK...so I just talked to Jolie at Project 321 and got everything straightened out. I can get the the XD1 freehub, or the Shimano freehub on my rear hub. So I made the switch to the XD1 so now I can look into the Sram cassettes. The XG-1180, and the XG-1195 are the 2 I'm looking at.

I use the X01 level on my 429SL that I use for racing(same cassette is on my rfx too). It's just as light as the XX1, at 265g. 32 front ring. I tried a 30t front ring, but I'd never get into the largest cog, even on the steepest descents. These are pretty efficient bikes, so they don't need as much bail-out IMO, at the end of the day the efficiency of the DW link seems to beat you up less. The overall mass of your build may come into play too, if you are keeping it light, you mind find it's easier to push around that weight all day long with the 42t gear. I think no matter what, you'd adapt to that cassette just fine and wouldn't notice any difference in a few weeks. For me, I don't see any need to go higher, the old granny-gear and 34 or 36 cassette combination was too slow uphill for stability over any rough terrain, so I'd always be geared down a couple gears and if it got real rough, I'd have to gear down even further, otherwise I'd slip on the terrain due to too much torque.

Actually, it has More range than an Eagle cassette. 511% v 500%

When I went 1x11 I went to XD. Sram has the lightest big cog cassettes out there. Not cheap, but they are light. As for XD? well it works pretty well. Different installation /removal procedure. Possibly better, but I have not really studied it. What is also nice about XD is 10t cog. Seems odd, but the benefit of 10t cog over a 11t is really pretty massive. It means I have more top end with a 28x10 vs 30x11. That means the 42 on the low end is fact lower. The 28x42 is like 30x46.
I have stans crest wheels with stans 3.30 hubs so a conversion to XD was pretty easy. Not cheap, but not hard.
