I bought a $30 helmet for racing last year, big mistake. My neck hurt after almost every ride just from the weight of it.

Im looking for a nice looking LIGHT helmet for next years XC race season. Lighter the better.

Anything under $200 is doable.

Thanks!!

love my Lazer Genesis, pretty wallet friendly as well.
specialized helmets are also quite nice.

Best bet is to try a bunch on, I have never had luck ordering a new type of helmet and having it fit to my satisfaction

Yesterday tried some Giros on. The very popular Ionos is about 330 grams? Can be found for around $102 shipped new from Competitivecyclist.com is their 20% coupon is still valid. Otherwise it's $119 before shipping.

The Giro Aeros (?) is about 100 grams lighter and about $50 more on average. It is as light as the Giro Prolight but has a much better RocLoc5 and side strap system.

But a light helmet doesn't mean squat if you don't try them on and find a nice comfy fit.

Do you mean the Giro Atmos? I have this helmet- very light with very good ventilation. So light, in fact, that I worry about my noggin on technical terrain ;)

ok wow i bought a $50 helmet just from normal store and light as

how heavy is you're helmet ?

cause i never had problem with that and have been on bike for like 2-3 hours at a time never had a problem with it

guys have any other ideas? What would be considered a light weight for a helmet? I'll weigh mine today and let you know what mine weighs, but I know its pretty heavy.

^^ Well a $50 helmet could be a huge stop up from a $30 helmet, who knows. Also we may have different riding styles, or maybe you have a neck the size of a tree trunk...I dont know what to tell you.

I know MY helmet is heavy.

Just weighed my Giro Atmos (for the 1st time) - 262g. But I actually wear my heavier Giro Animas helmet most of the time (advertized weight of 349g). It doesn't bother me even when wearing a headlamp.

Honestly, I think you should just buy a decent lid that fits well. Most are pretty light these days.

well i know its not heavy by any standard

well yes you could say im big bloke esp considering im 105kgs some of that is fat but when fit im 92kg and that isnt bulked up

so i suppose you could say im a lot bigger than some guys alot taller than me

will weigh my helmet outta curiosity and let you know

I got my Aeon on sale for 200 dollars. The Specialized Prevail is nice and light too.
Compettive Cyclist have Giro helmets on sale. All of them will be lighter/better than what you currently have. If you can wait til Christmas you'll definitely be able to find some deals.

I have a Uvex FP3.0 that is very heavy! I don't have the exact weight at the moment, but it was over 350g for a large, but it was also the most comfortable helmet I've ever owned.

+1!!
Heck, I'm a weight weenie but seeing as how I haven't had a haircut in 6 weeks and look like Jimmy Walker I'm sure there is over 100grams of hair sticking out of my "heavy" Giro Pneumo anyways.
