I'm not sure, btw, that trying to sell your $1500 (new, and available) hardtail on Facebook for $2000 is a wise move... at any rate.

I look at the PC as just another pawn shop targeting those in need of cash. The business model uses a fair amount of customer consignment, which decreases the risk to PC.

I had my Fargo up for sale locally. But if I were to build another just like it, it would cost way more now, so probably just keeping it.

I had thought about upgrading to a newer version because they have clearance for bigger tires, but not sure it’s worth it.

If someone actually pays you $2k then I would say it was a wise move.

I paid $2512 tax in for my GT force. The "new" version is currently 30% off super sale...for $4200.

I think perhaps there are a lot of suckers paying crazy prices.
Ok, but I'm talking about a Giant hardtail, that's $1500 on their site.. with 0% financing.

Oh an actual current new model?

Yeah I've seen a lot of that. (see reference of trance x frame on pros closet). I normally chalk it up to people not actually looking to see what things sell for before listing, but clearly some people are trying to profit on the hope that everything else it out of stock.

The low ball offers from Pros Closet are to be expected. What I'm very curious about is the people selling them their bikes. Who are these people accepting significantly less than they could get on local markets? I get that it's slightly more convenient, but thousands of dollars worth of convenience? There can't be that many people who are that desperate to offload their mountain bikes.
I see this all the time with cars. Lots of folks would rather trade in their car for thousands less that selling it outright. Many say they dont want to deal with people coming to look at it. Too many people today, especially younger people, miss out on some good old fashioned haggling-lol.

I'm German. I price this thing at the price I want to get and I expect others to do the same. Haggling is not a thing.

What a refreshing way of doing things. Unfortunately, most of the world doesn’t work that way. It varies from most Western European countries and the US there being some negotiation on the price, to countries where the social norm is to price outrageously, start the bargaining at 30% of the asking price, then spend a lot of time going back and forth to get to a reasonable price.

Frankly the latter drives me nuts and I won’t do it. I price things at slightly above what I expect to accept, normally ending up about 10-15% below my asking price.

The US pricing is a mess. Taxes are hidden, everyone thinks they're getting a deal, but the reality is they're not. Because, as has been said, prices are outrageously inflated, so you can "cut someone a break".

Well, as far as haggling, it all depends on how you priced your item, and how bad you want to sell it. I always try to price stuff fair for a quick sale, then theres always that jackass that comes along and offers 40-50% less-lol.
I'm always buying and selling bike parts, and if there is something I see for a fair price I usually just say "I'll take it".

The worst thing ever is people asking what is the least you will take. I either don't answer or respond with a number higher then my original asking price.

I absolutely hate haggling and hagglers. If something is priced fairly I buy it at that price.

When I am selling stuff I price stuff fairly and often end up saying to people if you can find a better deal you should take it.

I had someone say my reba fork was super overpriced and showed me a link to an ebay listing.... of MY fork, for a higher price that I was offering local. I told him he was welcome to pay the higher price on ebay, as I get the same after the fees. Turns out he was looking at it in USD.
